The Book of Enoch, written during the second century B.C.E., is one of the most important non-canonical apocryphal works, and probably had a huge influence on early Christian, particularly Gnostic, beliefs. Filled with hallucinatory visions of heaven and hell, angels and devils, Enoch introduced concepts such as fallen angels, the appearance of a Messiah, Resurrection, a Final Judgement, and a Heavenly Kingdom on Earth. Interspersed with this material are quasi-scientific digressions on calendrical systems, geography, cosmology, astronomy, and meteorology.

This etext has been prepared specially for sacred-texts, and is a great improvement over other versions on the Internet, with the introduction, correct verse numbering, page numbers from the 1917 edition, and intact critical apparatus. ( Sacred Text)

Several of the chapters are pretty short so I have separated the chapters into "sections" and here is how it seems manageable to me. The Introduction is a bit long and could be in 2 parts if recommended (I go back and forth). I am about 1/2 way through another project so there is no hurry. I just know this is the next in line for projects I want to work on and thought I could get a jump start.

OK, this is set up.

- I changed "chapter" for "section" in the intro/outro for you.

- Since there's no definitive author, you can just say, "The book of Enoch, translated by..." in the intros.

- Before cataloging, we'll need a PD intro/summary. Sacred Texts copyrights the book descriptions on its site. (Even though the text itself is PD, someone had to write the intro.)

Umm, I think that's all I wanted to mention. If you decide to split the intro, you can use the "Add Section" button in the Magic Window, then drag it up and drop it in the spot you want it. (It adds sections at the bottom.)

CJ - I see you put the text links in the section title field. That's OK for now, but before cataloging you'll need to remove the formatting/links. We can only have plain text in there at cataloging time. (Or you can move those links over to the Notes field. That's one of its purposes.)

Thank you for offering to DPL Tom! I do not intend to include the verse numbers or the footnotes. The text also includes (when available) the Ethiopian version and the Greek version. I will be staying with the Ethiopian version. That will make more sense when you actually see the text.

Tricia, I fixed the MW links. Thanks for getting rid of that extra section.

I have another project to finish up before I get into this one full swing. But having it set up and ready to go will be good motivation for finishing up the other quickly.

Sections 1 - 5 are ready for PL.

Since I am hoping for word perfect on this one, I edited and listened following the text before uploading. Can't guarantee I didn't miss anything but hopefully should be pretty close and hopefully not too many errors in the reading.

I do use noise gate to clean up the breath sounds and unfortunately, I sometimes clip off the TH, SSS, and FFF sounds at the end of words. I think I fixed all of those as well but please, if there is even a small thing clipped off that is noticeable to you, don't feel like it is insignificant, I would prefer to fix it. Be picky!

If you don't mind being that particular, I would appreciate catching as many as we can. I don't mind the tedious so long as what we end up with is good quality. I proof listened using my standard headphones and not the same ones I usually record and proof with. Sounds like maybe I shouldn't do that in the future. I have already fixed the two you mentioned but I will hold on the upload until we are ready for spot pl on that one.

Sorry about section 02. It should be legitimately ready to download now. I uploaded my working file instead of the final.

I have finished listening to section 1 and have "a few" remarks. But first I want to say that you have read this beautifully. I have gritted my teeth through long PLs in the past, but this one was a pleasure to listen to. I look forward to the rest of the book.

And now the bad news. I know the list looks daunting, but half of the items are pops that sound to me like air blowing across the microphone (i.e. plosives). In the following list, when I say "pop", that's what I'm talking about.
Those items marked "abrupt ending" are (I think) early cutoffs you mentioned associated with the noise gate effect. There are a small number of deviations from the text, and I offer a few suggestions of my own that you are more than welcome to completely ignore.
