Eighty Seven by Pansy (1841 - 1930).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/eighty-seven-by-pansy/
Twelve-year-old Winter Kelland is an orphan indentured to a cold, harsh farming couple. His one bright spot is eight-year-old Vine, a neighbor girl who believes he can do great things if he can get an education. Win finally has enough of the hard life at the farm and runs away. But he discovers that even his poor life at the farm was desirable to being a half-starved tramp. At his lowest, he encounters a prickly spinster who learns to follow God's command, "He that honoreth Him hath mercy on the poor." The title, Eighty Seven, refers to the year Vine will turn 22 years old and will have a grand birthday feast, and is a tribute to her Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle (CLSC) graduating class of 1887. (Summary by TriciaG)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/eightyseven00pansiala
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Sections 0, 1 & 2 PL OK

Section/Chapter 3 ... It's about time you left me something to do...
10:47-10:49 missed edit. "and his place at Mrs Gr.. and his place........"

Interestingly, on my most trusted player (VLC) I was getting some strange blip sounds in the 10 minute section of this file only. I did try it on the internet player (double click Listen file) and the sounds weren't there. That's the reason I had quit using Media Player - strange sounds. Oh well, at least I have a safe double-check place... I think. ;)

Chapters 7, 8 & 9 PL OK

I was going to say "oh sure, I should have waited one more chapter". But then I suspected, and think I confirmed by the title, that the next chapter won't be about Vine in the class anyway.

11 is uploaded.

10 is uploading now.

:)

EDIT: And 12 is now uploaded also. ;)

EDIT2: I forgot to mention that that couplet from a hymn in chapter 8 or 9 - "If you wait till you are better, you will never come at all" - is from a hymn we sang the day before I recorded the chapter. 8-) Funny how that works!
