The Man From Snowy River and Other Verses by Andrew Barton Paterson (1864 - 1941).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-man-from-snowy-river-and-other-verses-2-by-andrew-barton-paterson/
The Man from Snowy River and Other Verses (1895) is the first collection of poems by Australian poet Banjo Paterson. It was released in hardback by Angus and Robertson in 1895, and features the poet's widely anthologised poems "The Man from Snowy River", "Clancy of the Overflow", "Saltbush Bill" and "The Man from Ironbark". It also contains the poet's first two poems that featured in The Bulletin Debate, a famous dispute in The Bulletin magazine from 1892-93 between Paterson and Henry Lawson.
The collection includes 48 poems by the author that are reprinted from various sources, along with a preface by Rolf Boldrewood, who defined the collection as "the best bush ballads written since the death of Lindsay Gordon" ( Wikipedia)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/213
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Section [number] of The Man From Snowy River and Other Verses by Andrew Barton Paterson. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Poem title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.

Thanks for the heads up, not sure why but when I copied it, somehow it added the extra "T"
I'm looking to do this project as a solo reader, can't wait to get started.

Am I supposed to do anything else? or do I just wait for someone to assign this to me?

OK, this is set up.

As you're the soloist, you're in charge of updating the Magic Window.

Detailed Instructions for accessing the Magic Window can be found in the document linked here:
Instructions for Soloists

Video showing how to use the Magic Window (read the above document first - it has the information on how to log in for the first time, which this does not have):
Magic Windows / Section Compiler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOP4tcr1kl8

I've entered the first three sections for you as an example. You can fill in the rest.

When you upload a chapter, log into the Magic Window using your personal login/password. Put the file duration (mm:ss) in the Notes field and the uploaded URL into the Listen URL field, and mark it from Assigned to Ready for PL.

Holler if you have questions!

Oh, and I wanted to mention that you can either call the author "Andrew Barton Paterson" in the intros, or you can call him "Banjo Paterson". IIRC, he's best known by his nickname.

Hi Tricia,
Am I missing something on getting BC Admin authorization?
You don't have permissions for this area.

I'm trying to upload my first section?

Did you follow the instructions to gain access to the Magic Window? There's a link in my post above.

Then, when you've set up your login for the Magic Window, use that rather than the generic "librivox" one when uploading files. If you're logged in with the generic one, you have to log out before you can get into the Magic Window (because the generic one doesn't have permission to enter the Magic Window for this project). :)

FYI, the file name for the first file should be manfromsnowyriver_00_paterson_128kb. When I go into my uploader folder, out of the 40 projects I'm currently MC'ing, I won't know which project a file called "section_0" is for. ;)

No worries. :)

The section titles look good. I've added your first section into the Magic Window (Section Compiler) for you. Now that you can get in the MW, when you upload a file, put the file link in the "Listen URL" field and the file length in the Notes field. :)

So do I still need to post the file link in here? or do I just upload to you in the uploader and then add the link to the MW?
Thanks so much for your help. :D

Put it in the Magic Window. Then, and especially when you get a proof-listener, post in the thread that you've uploaded a new section. That way the listener knows that there's something new to listen to. :)
