Tattlings of a Retired Politician by Forrest Crissey (1864 - 1943) .

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/tattlings-of-a-retired-politician-by-forrest-crissey/

"The letters (non-partisan) of Hon. William Bradley, Ex-Governor and former veteran of practical politics, written to his friend and protege Ned who is still busy 'carving a career back in the old state.'" ( F. Crissey) This is a novel filled with humorous political anecdotes by the main character, the Honorable William Bradley, told for the benefit of his protege, Ned. It conveys a sense of the ironic and humorous side of politics in Washington and back in their home state.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Dave:

The chapters in this are proceeded by a short "head note" (p. 17 is an example). I propose to insert the head note immediately after reading the intro and before I get into the actual text of the chapter. Hope that is ok.

Many thanks for taking on this project!

Sounds like a good plan. Let me know if any changes are needed.

Thanks for the MW. Everything looks great! I filled in all the blanks, so I think we're good to go.

Didn't realize there was a Chicago connection. Apparently some of the "tattlings" first appeared in the Chicago Tribune, a newspaper I read daily.

Dave:

The work is dedicated to Luther M. Dearborn who was a prominent Chicago lawyer, member of the Illinois Court of Claims, and State Senator https://books.google.com/books/content?id=PqA_AQAAMAAJ&pg=PA355&img=1&zoom=3&hl=en&sig=ACfU3U2xeaerctXLuP7dExcK6LGOaEREoA&ci=64%2C542%2C829%2C488&edge=0

He may well have been the model for "Bill Bradley" the letter writer. Dearborn was a close friend of the author.

I guess its possible that he or someone in his family got the family name plastered on Dearborn St.--which is famous (to us non-Chicagoans) for the fictional "Adam's Rib" episode in M*A*S*H.

Sorry...I was unable to suppress my pedantic proclivities.
