Sonnets and Poems by John Masefield (1878 - 1967).

47 poems, most of them sonnets, most on the subjects of beauty and death, touching the mystery just beyond the known. ( Josh Mitteldorf)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/sonnets-and-poems-by-john-masefield/

  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Index:Sonnets_and_poems,_Masefield,_1916.djvu
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thank you, Anne.

I have jumped the gun and uploaded the one and only audio file. This is a very short book, about 40 minutes all told.

It's ready for proofing.

Mitteldorf,
I set this up for you. If you have another MC it is no problem to switch to them. Usually poems are read with one poem in each file. There are 47 in this. You could separate them into 47 files as is the common practice. I can increase the number of sections in the MW. You may also group them: Poems 1-5, Poems 6-12, etc... or wherever a division seems to make sense to you. It can remain as one file, if you choose. People who listen to our poetry works may not expect it to be in one long file.
Let me know so it can be sorted out before a prooflistener becomes involved.

Cheers,
Amy

p.s.
Anne and Rapunzelina, if you are MCing this, please feel free to switch me out. I just set up the MW. That's all.

Could I proof listen this?

Edit: I've jumped the gun and listened to it. I find the reading PL OK. The silence at the end seems to be three seconds instead of the five I think it's supposed to be. I don't know if that's important or not.

Hi Pattymarie,
I added you as DPL.
Mitteldorf,
This will be all set after you update the 5 seconds. If you divide it up, there will need to be 5 seconds at the end of each file.
Thanks,
Amy

I've been remiss such a long time - got distracted by...you know, life.
Here's the full recording with ending and the 5 seconds silence at the end.

Congratulations!

p.s.
Mittledorf, if you do another book of poetry, please have each poem as a separate file.
