COMPLETE: The Hunting of the Snark, by Lewis Carroll
The audio file can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/the-hunting-of-the-snark-by-lewis-carroll/
Betsie: You were right-- this one is tougher than it first appears. But it is so much fun to read (and more to hear) that I hope you will try it again.
---------
To all,
Here is my reading of Carroll's poem. Not sure if I should have posted it here or in the Completed Books section. But it's not a book, so I figure here.
There is only one file and it is ~27.5MB. If you don't have high-speed and wish me to post it in segmented form, let me know. The total time for the poem is just under 30 mins. That might be a tad too fast - but it's such an exciting poem, it's hard to slow it down!
You can get it here: The Hunting of the Snark
Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for doing this Robert, I'm listening to it now and it sounds great so far!
Betsie and Kara - how do we want to handle cataloging long poems like this and Chip's recently posted collection by Stephen Crane? They're rather long to go in the short poetry section. Should we do them as solo projects? That seems to make most sense to me... their own catalog page but then put them under poetry and short works on the catalog index. Just thinking out loud here, let me know what you think I'll catalog at least one of them.

Sure, solo's fine, whatever works. We don't have to be all hard-nosed about what goes where, and a lot of things are sort of blurry anyway.
Thanks Annie, thanks Robert!

That's what I figured. I'll go ahead and catalog this then!

I don't have time to actually LISTEN to very many of our recordings -- but I put the Snark on just now and am enjoying it so much! What a rollicking poem! I think Henry (my ten-year-old) will really enjoy it too. I'll load it on his iPod tomorrow.

Crane's War Is Kind is actually a book on its own. It's just that you can read aloud a short book of poetry in about a half hour - exactly what I was looking for when browsing around looking for a project this evening. I wanted something which would stand on its own, but which could be read and uploaded in the time I had available.LibraryLady wrote:Betsie and Kara - how do we want to handle cataloging long poems like this and Chip's recently posted collection by Stephen Crane?
You should check that thing out; it's pretty bizarre. I'd never heard of it before I started browsing through Gutenberg looking for something of appropriate length, but it's as weird and mystical as anything I've ever read.

Your hope is not in vain, Robert; that was a wonderful rendition! Thanks so much for making it happen so quickly and with such an excellent sense of meter.RobertG wrote:Hope you enjoy!

Yes, great job Robert! There is such a great a rhythm to the poem that you managed to use to the poem's advantage, whereas sometimes meter can make poems monotonous.

Thanks!

I'm glad the reading found a home and especially happy to know that Henry will hear it-- my favorite audience has always been the young.

Well, it was a fun poem but now it's back to the more sober verses of Clive Hamilton. Ah, I am enjoying that one as well!

Okay Robert, cataloging is finished (what a nice quick little project!) and the url is : http://librivox.org/the-hunting-of-the-snark-by-lewis-carroll
Please look it over and double check that everything looks right. If you'd like you can write a brief description for me to add to the catalog and for another volunteer to use in his work with bit torrents. If you'd rather not, that's fine too! Thanks for the hard work, this was a fun listen!
