Could I claim section 55, please? This will be my first recording, and I can go by my username, ChristyEck, in the catalogue.

Welcome to Librivox. Thank you for choosing this project!

Before I can assign you to a section, you need to complete a 1 minute test. This is not an audition, merely to see if your recording setup meets our technical spec. Should you need help adjusting your set up, we can provide that, too.

Here is information that all new recorders may find useful: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Newbie_Guide_to_Recording

Here is specific information on completing your 1 minute test: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test

Once you have uploaded your 1 minute test, if you will post a message here (in addition to where the directions tell you to) I will see it and can help expedite the process.

I will hold Section 55 for you for 10 days (until July 7) to give you time to complete your 1 minute test.

If you have any questions, or anything is confusing, please do not hesitate to ask.

I look forward to hearing your reading.

Many thanks,

Philip

Welcome to Librivox!

You will need to complete a 1 minute test before I can assign you to read a section. The purpose for the one minute test is to see if your recording setup meets our technical specifications. It is not an audition. Should you need help adjusting your recording setup, we can help. Specific information on competing your one minute test can be found at this link: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test

This link provides additional information that new users may find helpful:

Once you have uploaded your 1 minute test, if you will post a message here (in addition to where the directions tell you to) I will see it and can help expedite the process.

I have put a hold on Section 60 for you for the next 10 days (until July 10) to give you time to complete your one minute test. Once you have done that and are cleared to record, I will then assign it to you.

If you have any questions or things that seem confusing, please do not hesitate to ask.

Many thanks,

Philip

Rona:

Thanks for your test. You have a nice, clear voice and read very distinctly. Well done. That said, There were a couple of technical issues with the test which must be fixed before I can recommend it as a "pass." Fortunately, they are both quick and relatively easy to fix (and you don't have to re-record the file).

I hope you are using audacity, because if you are not, this won't make a lot of sense, but I'll help find the information you need for your recording software. (If you are not using audacity, I'll help you find appropriate information for the recording software you are using.

I ran this through the Librivox Checker software which failed this recording. There is a link on this page so you can download the Checker for your future recordings as well as an explanation of Librivox Tech Specs: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Tech_Specs (I always run any file I record through it before I upload).

1. The file is too loud. The acceptable range here at Librivox is 86.5-92 dB (decibels). Your file checked in at 94.7 dB. To fix this in Audacity, highlight the entire vocal track, then click on the Effect menu and then on Amplification. A box will pop up. In the box next to Amplification (dB) you will need to type in a negative number. A good midrange target is 89 dB. So 94.7-5.7= 89 dB. So in the box you would need to type -5.7. Then hit enter.

2. The bit rate for the file should be 128 kbps. To fix this: after you have completed Step #1 above, again in Audacity, select the Export to mp3. In the window that pops up, make sure the bit rate mode is "constant" and the Quality is 128 kbps.

Then export the file and re upload. (Remember to post a link here so that I'll see it and can listen again.) If it passes (which it should) I can get an admin to ok you to begin recording.

I look forward to hearing your corrections.

Many thanks,

Philip
