Stanzas Written in His Library by Robert Southey (1774 - 1843).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/stanzas-written-in-his-library-by-robert-southey/
Poem #619 in The Book Of Georgian Verse, page 1110, published 1909.
This poem seems so appropriate to what we do at Librivox, surrounding ourselves with, learning from, and keeping alive the memories of deceased authors . . . their ideas, concerns, creative output . . . and hoping that our efforts will also last "through all futurity". (Summary by Michele Fry)
Each fortnight a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This fortnight's poem can be found here. Poem #619, Page 1110.

Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
Stanzas Written in His Library by Robert Southey [pronounced Sow'-thee], read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal url.]
Then read the poem:
MY days among the Dead are past;
Around me I behold,
Where'er these casual eyes are cast,
The mighty minds of old;
My never failing friends are they,
With whom I converse day by day.

With them I take delight in weal,
And seek relief in woe;
And while I understand and feel
How much to them I owe,
My cheeks have often been bedew'd
With tears of thoughtful gratitude.

My thoughts are with the Dead, with them
I live in long-past years,
Their virtues love, their faults condemn,
Partake their hopes and fears,
And from their lessons seek and find
Instruction with an humble mind.

My hopes are with the Dead, anon
My place with them will be,
And I with them shall travel on
Through all Futurity;
Yet leaving here a name, I trust,
That will not perish in the dust.

At the end of your reading, leave a few seconds of space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording.

David, do I PL my own poem, or does someone else need to do it? If so, here's the link:

Thanks for fixing the MW and coaching me on my first time BC'ing a Poetry gig.

Hi Michele,

David has somebody else listen to his recordings.

I've listened to yours. Good reading. :) Only one PL note:

@1:03.3, I hear "anon my place will with them be", the text is "anon my place with them will be"

ETA: in MW the lines shift down, but not "PL status"...

Oops. Thanks. I've fixed my file (MTF), and learned something new about the MW that I certainly did not know. The PL status doesn't shift with the section number? Hecky-Darn! :shock:

Thanks, Bill. Just a few things need your attention:

:26 with whom I converse day by day, you say "every day". (The standard on poems is usually Word Perfect.)
There are 9 seconds of silence between the end of the poem and the Outro. Please shorten to 2 or 3 seconds.
And we ask that you notate the duration of your file.
