The Night The Mountain Fell; The Story Of The Montana-Yellowstone Earthquake by Edmund Christopherson ( - 0).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-night-the-mountain-fell-the-story-of-the-montana-yellowstone-earthquake-by-edmund-christopherson/
A severe earthquake, centered in the vacation area of West Yellowstone, Montana, shook the ground and its inhabitants and visitors on August 17, 1959, at 11.37 pm. A mountainside fell, a lake formed, roads and houses disappeared, people were trapped, people died. The author of this narrative went to the area the day after the quake, took first-hand stories of the catastrophe, researched in the following months, and wrote this account within a year of the shaking. The printed source has many informative photographs. ( David Wales)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/56850
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I was looking at this one the other day -- the pictures are amazing!
Glad you're doing this one -- great story to get out there.
On the road again, so delays are possible

Living in LA, I hope you don't find this book too disturbing (just kidding).

I guess I've gotten inured to earthquakes after 50 years here. My most terrifying natural experience was a hurricane in South Carolina. It just kept building stronger and louder hour after hour. I thought for sure we were dead. My most "unnatural" experience was Tet of '68 in Vietnam, but that's another story altogether.

19:37 delete repeat, "by the time..."

Your experience in SC reminds me of the 5 foot rainfall we experienced in Costa Rica. It just kept raining harder and harder. You had to yell to hear the person standing next to you.
