The Dream is Joanna Baillie’s gothic, proto-Lynchian meditation on fear, guilt, and the prophetic power of dreams. In the cloistered confines of a Swiss monastery, a small group of monks share the same prophetic dream: a forlorn specter reaches out to them with a mysterious—and potentially life-threatening—ultimatum. The dream comes every night, and yet its true import remains hazy and unknown. But when these dreams lead them to a buried corpse, the monastery soon tumbles down a blood-spattered path of vengeance, betrayal, and unbridled terror.

Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
A couple of quick notes here:
* GENDER NEUTRAL CASTING: There are only two major female roles in this play, so obviously in the interest of getting this done sometime in the next decade, I've decided to make casting for this one gender neutral. I will add, however, that the two female characters are hardly disposable or uninteresting; in fact, they're probably the most active and heroic characters in the whole play!
* SMALLER ROLES: There are numerous small roles in this play, many of which only occupy a scene or two within a single act. If you would like to take a small role, please consider taking multiple parts across multiple acts. Filling out all these small parts as quickly as possible will really help us finish this in an expedient manner.
* NEW TO DRAMATIC PROJECTS?: This is a relatively short play (only 50 pages, three acts instead of five), so it's perfect for beginnings wishing to dip their toe in dramatic works.
How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I wanted to finish up a little more on my two ongoing projects before launching this (I'm currently editing rough cuts of Rollo and finishing up on the final chapters of The Golden Book), but got impatient. To all the MCs: I'm sorry. I'm weak of will and just wanted to get this started.

I played a villain in the last Baillie, so I guess it's time to play someone nicer. Could I claim the role of Osterloo?
Haha! Yeah, what a stand-up guy, that Osterloo. Thanks Tomas!

I can set this up for you. MW shortly.
And I hear Monk Benedict is a good person. May I read that?
Thanks, Todd
He is! Thanks Todd! Hope the role doesn't give you the power of prophetic dreams too!
