Haste and Waste; The Young Pilot of Lake Champlain by Oliver Optic (1822 - 1897).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/haste-and-waste-by-oliver-optic/
The sixth and last volume of the Woodville stories contains the record of a mechanical, rather than a moral triumph, though the virtues of patience and perseverance are incidentally illustrated, andd the "little captain" of the Woodville is always a good son, a forbearing brother, and a kind friend. Lawry Wilford, the young pilot, is a boy of spirit and energy, who overcomes difficulties by a strong faith in himself, and redeems his family from poverty, in spite of the bad example and the bad conduct of his father and his older brother. Previous book in the series is Hope and Have; Fanny Grant Among the Indians. ( Scarlett Martin from book preface)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/stream/hasteandwasteory00optiiala?ref=ol#page/n9/mode/2up
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): special

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

There is a preface found here: https://archive.org/stream/hasteandwasteory00optiiala?ref=ol#page/n9/mode/2up

that is not found on the gutenberg site. I will be reading the preface so maybe I need to add the archive text to my "read from" section? or just let me PL know? :-)

Jim, Thanks! So the preface is on the archives site, but the rest of the text will be from the gutenberg site. Or I suppose I could just read it all from the archive site. Thanks so much for being available.

I'll MC.

Did you decide whether you're going to just read from the Archive version, or switch over to Gutenberg after the preface? It's easier in the catalog if you just use one text, but we can work it so that the preface e-text is available separately.

I've shortened your file name; feel free to use the "youngpilotoflakechamplain" part if you prefer. :)

We can switch to just the archives page. That's fine with me. Thanks so much.
