take you time with the characters. Quality over quantity, any time.
the new one was distorting my voice no matter what settings I tried. I still don't know what the problem is.
have you checked maybe if you have a sort of "automatic noise cancelling" in the settings of the new microphone ? I had that once and it made me sound as if I was recording from an aquarium. :? If you have it, turn it off, it's better to noise-clean with audacity. ;)

Good luck with Dickens. How many books have you recorded yet ? How many yet to do ?

Hamlet wrote: February 8th, 2018, 8:50 am Okay, those corrections are done. Even the 4-5 one that was mentioned.
everything Spot PL ok. Thank you.

btw as Narrator you have one other task to fulfill, that is the Dramatis personae. Could you do one file more, saying:

Dramatis Personae of The Tragedy of King Lear, by William Shakespeare. This is a Librivox recording. All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit Librivox dot org.
then read all your characters the way I wrote them in our email. Only yours, all the others should hand in a file with their voice credits as well, and I can paste them all together in your file in the end.
then End of Dramatis Personae

This is not pressing now, no need to do it immediately, I only wanted to mention it, in case you forgot ;)

I should have realized something was missing. lol What should I call the file with the Dramatis personae?

My completed Dickens projects so far are A Tale of Two Cities, Dombey and Son, The Pickwick Papers, Nicholas Nickleby, and the five "Christmas Books" including A Christmas Carol. Also the little-known "Master Humphrey's Clock" which Dickens had intended to be a collection of many stories in a periodical form, supposedly those read by a reading group hosted by the fictitious Master Humphrey. Eventually, instead of short stories, he published The Old Curiosity Shop and Barnaby Rudge (I'll be doing that novel next) in it, before abandoning it entirely.

kinglear_0_shakespeare_128kb (it's gonna be section 0, before the first act)

ok I see you still have quite a stretch of road before you

I'd love to read more Dickens, I'm afraid I haven't read many of his books yet. Maybe I should become DPL for your next project, if you'd like to have me.

I have both a regular MC and PL for the Dickens projects. But I'll remember you if I ever need one. :)

ok, I am in the game now. I started on the short roles, to get those out the way. My third servant sounds like a screetchy matron, I found this a funny effect, since she is ranting about women becoming monsters

and here is poor doomed Cordelia. I gave her a very soft voice, so I could play meaner for Regan. My favourite scene was 4.7. where her despair and rage over her sisters' behaviour could melt stones.

I was busy again :) Here is Oswald in all his rasping glory  or rather un-glory, but I DID enjoy his final moments. I love a good dramatic dying scene.
BTW I noticed a lot of my characters are dying before the play is over. :hmm:

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/kinglear_oswald_4_6.mp3
Recording time: 1:35 min.

I am having a go at Regan next, and since I noticed I had one scene with Oswald, basically talking to myself, I started out with that one, to see if the characters are sufficient different. I think it turned out quite well, if I may say so myself.

Here is the FIRST scene entirely assembled. If anybody would like to PL :)

Recording time: 3:07 min.

Now I need to rest my vocal chords  Oswald was taxing...

"I noticed a lot of my characters are dying before the play is over."

On the other hand, only one of my characters dies, but he's only in one scene.

I'll be reading two of the major characters, Kent and Albany. And of the entire play's major characters the only other survivor is Edgar. So I'm two-thirds of them! :)

A few more Regans from me. She is a nasty bitch, indeed. The palpable pleasure when she says "put in his legs" was really ugly. And it will become uglier in the eye-gouging scene. :?

I gave her a very disagreeable haughty voice, to differentiate from the more gentle Cordelia. Since I don't know how you will do Goneril, Tomas, I am curious to hear the three sisters together.

and here is the end of Regan. Not too soon, after this gouging scene  In the final scene I made her sound more and more sick, since she is slowly poisoned. My third character who died. Well Cordelia at least died quietly off-stage, without any fuss

Now only Edgar left, but for me he is the hardest nut to crack (pun intended  )

I'm getting ready to do some of my small roles now.

You (kitty, that is) said that my voice credits file should be "kinglear_0_shakespeare_128kb" but I noticed that you did yours as "kinglear_voice-credits_0" I did it the way you did it, but I can change it before uploading it if you prefer.

I was considering doing the King of France with a French accent, but I've reconsidered. Mainly because all my attempts at that accent are so bad as to be comical. So I'll read him as I read most of Shakespeare, which a bit of a British accent.

no yours should be the master-file since you read the stage directions, I named mine differently, since we paste all my credits in your file later on. Others can name it "voice-craig" or "tomas-credits" or whatever, so that they won't over-write your file

I love doing the French accent ;) But I understand why Tomas didn't put me in that role. He is too often with Cordelia probably.

You do your best. This king is probably very schooled in international relations, so a good British accent is not amiss LOL Even though, back then the British snobiety rather spoke French than the other way around.

Silly me, after asking the question about the file name, I went ahead an uploaded it before getting an answer, and I picked the wrong one. Oh well, I changed the name and uploaded it again.

Here is that file, plus all my small roles. I'll get onto Albany and Kent in the next few days.

If the servant's death sounds too melodramatic, I'll try again. :)
