Contos de Eça de Queirós (1845 - 1900).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/contos-by-jose-maria-de-eca-de-queiros/
( Wikipedia)

Brianna, Adriana and Mayah wanted to help bring this abandoned Solo to a close. Thanks !

So who wants to read which story ? There are still three stories left...

Have fun, girls :D I can PL your sections, if you wish. Gives me a bit of practice. (Please do not read too fast for me to follow.)

Wow! I think I can see a dream coming true! :9: :birthday: Tomorrow I will dedicate myself to that very first real contribution, if I have the opportunity! Just help me :help: , Sonia, please! I feel a bit confused :? About the option I have to choose. If it is a number among the list that goes from zero to twenty-nine, I would choose the last one that suggests a miracle in the title (O suave milagre). If I have the possibility, that would be my choice.
Thank you for letting me be part of this project.
Thank you, Sonia, for every little assistance!

Hugs,

Sacciotto

yes the last section is still OPEN as you can see in the final column. Most of the others are already done by a previous solo-reader, who abandoned the project. So with your help we will finish this now by recording the last 5 open sections.

Since you are the first to claim and since you are the beginner here, I am sure Mayah and Brianna don't mind that you claim this section.

So: I sign you officially up now for O suave milagro. Please read all the instructions for intro and outro in the first post ;)

Happy recording

thank you Brianna. Since I haven't heard back from Mayah yet, I will sign you up for Perfeiçao. Although please note, you only have to read THREE sections, the first section has already been recorded by the soloist. We need not do double work.

Let's see if Mayah wants to take the last section, if not, one of you or someone else who finds our project, will have to read it. :)

hello everyone anad Kitty,

here is the second part of :¨A Perfeição¨

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/contos_26_queiros_128kb.mp3

Kitty, if you have listened to the previous reader - a girl - you will notice the diference in pronunciation and intonation because she read in Portuguese from Portugal, I can't read as she did. I don't know if you will like this miscelaneous Reading pronunciation.

I also don't know if the other girls are from Portugal or not. Please let me know what you think about it to continue with it or not.
Ciao,
Brianna

could you please always tell me the file length as well ?
edit: sorry, I see you told me the length in the second post

no that doesn't matter at all. In English projects we also have readers from England, America or Australia, not to mention so many non-native speakers. This is pronunciation heaven  As long as people understand you, I am fine with it.

I will try to listen to it tonight, if not tomorrow morning.

Thank you

PS why did you post your question twice ? :hmm: Seems like you quoted yourself.

all right, Brianna, I was able to listen to it now. Thank you, for reading very clearly and not too fast, so I could follow along with the text :D It's nicely read and I didn't find significant errors in the text.

There are a few technical things to correct though:

> the volume is only 85.8, sightly under our absolute minimum (86-92 is allowed, preferably around 89 dB), Could you amplify with 2 maybe ?
But first you need to select the short part around 9:58, which already has clipping (the red line). It is too loud there so you must reduce the volume there by 4 dB for example.
After that, you can select all and amplify with 2 or 3 even.

> please leave at least 0.5 and not more than 1 second of silence at the beginning. Yours is starting too abruptly

> at 3:47: there is an audible smacking click, this could maybe be cut out, it hurts in the ears ;)

> at 14:50: "na Ilha de Ogigya" - stumble and repeat with "Ogigya", can be cut out or re-recorded

> at 17:42: before "fin de seçao 26" - could you leave a second or two between the final sentence of the story and the end disclaimer ? this is rushing a bit too fast. It's good if the Audience hears a pause here when it is finished :)

> at the end you need to leave the standard 5 seconds of silence (I think I told you this in World Stories already, remember ? ;) )

That is all. Could you please correct these few things and reupload with the same file name ? The reading is totally fine, you can continue like that. I like your pronunciation

Thank you Sonia!
I am fighting with my PC because It decided to upgrade the system! I am completely lost! :?
I am sure I leave the 5 seconds at the end but they disappear when I upload the file. Oh, my God!
I will correct the things you’ve noticed. No problem!
Thank you,
Brianna

Good evening, everyone!

This fellow of yours, newbie here, is feeling kind of dizzy right now. After starring with about twenty-five minutes of reading and over three hours of technical arrangements, I can't even read my name out loud. No problem with my voice, but my eyes and mind feel just weird. LOL  :? It was a long journey for sure! But the final result is fine, I guess, and I do believe I can contribute to the audiobook website. There's a sentence to be corrected, though, and I will be in trouble to do it by tomorrow. But... tomorrow will be another day!

I'll take my rest now wishing you all a good night sleep, but not without sending a special hug to my great assistant Sonia, who's been in charge of each little step I advance.

With affection,

Hi Adriana

great to see that you started recording.
This fellow of yours, newbie here, is feeling kind of dizzy right now. After starring with about twenty-five minutes of reading and over three hours of technical arrangements, I can't even read my name out loud. No problem with my voice, but my eyes and mind feel just weird. LOL  :?
:( be careful in the beginning. Recording and editing a long text takes a LOT of time. That's why I always tell newbies to please start with something smaller in the beginning ;) you really jumped right in the full here. I applaud your tenacity.

To tell you about my own experience:

1) for an end-result of about 20 minutes finished recording, I usually read about 25 to 30 minutes, because I make so many errors or stumbles or have to wait until a car passes, etc. So I have a raw recording of 25 minutes let's say.

2) Then I re-listen while reading along with the text, and cut out every repeat, every stumble, every car passing, every clicks and I usually find some errors, where I need to re-record the sentence and paste it into the right spot. For this first round of editing I need usually double the time of the recording, so about 40 to 50 minutes, but after that, usually I have no more errors in the text. And the recording is now about 20 minutes long.

3) Then I amplify to the right volume and run noise-cleaning to get a clearer sound. That doesn't take long

4) And then comes the final editing round: I listen to it all AGAIN, but without reading with the text, and I cut some long pauses between sentences, or I manually decrease the volume of a very loud breath  This round takes again about double the time, so another 30 to 40 minutes.

Total: 25 minutes recording, 40 minutes editing, 40 minutes second round editing = over one hour of work to get 20 minutes result.

I would say, sometimes it's even longer. That is why I prefer to record smaller texts ;) And I fully understand that you are dizzy, I would be too. I usually don't record it all in one session if the text is too long. I make small breaks in between, to rest my voice and eyes. And with the editing rounds, I usually do them over two or three days. Editing small chunks of about 10 minutes at a time, then I rest. The second round of editing I often do on another day.

Other readers probably are faster than me, but I need the resting time, to NOT feel dizzy with it all. So for you to do it all in one go is really a hard job, especially for your first venture. Maybe you can try to do it in chunks the next time too, and see if you are feeling better that way.
There's a sentence to be corrected, though, and I will be in trouble to do it by tomorrow. But... tomorrow will be another day!
ah yes now you can practice correction and editing of your file ;)

Good luck and thanks for your commitment !

I will cut it out when I find it later on don't worry
I am sure I leave the 5 seconds at the end but they disappear when I upload the file.
yes I remember you told me that already :hmm: It's so strange, why would that happen ? Also now when you correct it and add 5 seconds, then they never get cut off on the second round. Maybe next time you can try to insert 10 seconds and see if it cuts it maybe off to 5 ;) just to see what happens. I don't know why it would react like that though.

Before you upload next time, maybe you could check your mp3 file (open it again in Audacity) and check if the 5 seconds are there. If they are missing, you can add them once more immediately, and you only have to upload once.

Will PL later, thanks !
