War and Women by Mrs. St. Clair Stobart(1862 - 1954).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/war-and-women-by-mabel-annie-stobart/

"The sending of a Women’s Convoy Corps to the Balkans was the result of Mrs. Stobart’s keen desire to demonstrate the ability of women to render signal service under war conditions and without the direction and assistance of men. This record of their achievements, therefore, provides a strong vindication of the claims of women to inclusion in the Territorial Defence Scheme." ( )
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/warwomenfromexpe00stobrich
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Jo,

I was just taking a look at the length of chapters 1-3 and figure the record time will be approx 4 minutes for the first 13 for the second and maybe 6 or so for chapter 3. Haven't checked further.
Should I give them each a section or do you prefer I record 3 or 4 at a time? If so up to how many minutes do you want for each group? I'm happy to go with whatever you wish.

Thank you!!!

It's really up to you. You can choose to give each chapter its own section, or you can combine them. Some readers like to do sections of about 20-30 minutes. Some just do one section per chapter. As the soloist and book coordinator, it is your decision.

Hi!!

I've uploaded the first 3 sections. I decided to combine some chapters in order to reduce the number of intros for the listener.

I'm sorry to say that the pronunciation of most Bulgarian names and places maybe not be accurate. I've checked and checked online to no avail. If you know where I can get the info PLEASE let me know.

And of course I am happy to do any pickups you find necessary. :)

Thanks!

Oh boy, oh boy! I'm excited! I don't know the first thing about Bulgaria, so I wouldn't know the difference. I knew somebody from Romania once. Isn't that somewhere near there? Geography was never my strong suit. I'll try to listen tonight.

Hello again. I've added several more sections but please take your time...no rush to PL. I will probably have more by the weekend.

Since I've combined many chapters I have more sections than I need and I don't know how to delete the extra ones.
Help!!! :):)

Ooh, exciting! Looking forward to it! You don't have the ability to delete sections. But Jo can take care of it for you. :)
