First timer here, too. Apologies for doing a story that's already been done in the past (I didn't think to search for it until later) - I hope it's not a problem.

Hi Rijel,
What a great story...and reading.
There are only technical issues that need to be updated.
It needs only one second at the beginning, and it needs five seconds at the end.
It needs to be noise cleaned.
The recording is too quiet. I recommend on this one that you use the compressor effect and then amplify it by 4 db. That should do the trick.
Thanks and Welcome to the project!
Amy :)

Hello! Thanks for the warm words.

I added 5 seconds at the end of the recording, reduced the silence to 1 second at the beginning, reduced the noise and amplified it all a bit.

I also removed a lot of "clicks" throughout the track. Apparently, the mic is sensitive enough to pick up the trackpad vibrations. Let me know if there's anything else the track needs.

Feedback is also appreciated! I think I could have chosen a more neutral voice for most of the story, but I wanted some of his "frantic-ness" to come through.

Hi Rijel,
The way you read it was spot on imho. Very engaging.
The file is PL OK.
Thanks!
Amy :)

Welcome, Joshua.
Nice animated reading!
I proof listened and found some things that need to be updated.
-Use the Normalize effect to correct DC Bias
-Use the Compressor. This will bring your amplification down. It needs to be 4 db less.
-Remove the stumble "st" stuff at 6:36
-Remove the repeat "We better" at 12:34.
-Remove the room noise at in the opening and closing silence but make sure you have 1/2 to 1 second at the beginning and 5 seconds at the end.
Lastly, your voice sounds distant. What is your setup?.
Have a good night!
Amy

Hi Hilary,
There is no need to pre-claim. The Day Times Stopped Moving would be great for the collection.
Have fun with it.

Hi Amy-

I apologize for doing this without doing a minute test first! I simply couldn't find the page where the minute test is described, so I decided to jump right in. I just found the minute test page as I was preparing to upload this cleaned file.

Your suggestions for cleaning the file were great. I really appreciate them! I think I managed to apply them, all except for the distant echoey quality to the recording. I have been trying to deal with that ever since I started using my office as a studio. I first went out and spent $200 on acoustic foam and pasted it to the walls, to the horror of my wife who thinks I ruined the paint job of my office. I first used two-sided tape to affix the foam to the wall and the foam just fell off. Then I bought spray glue to affix it. If I had waited to get some acoustic foam shipped I could have bought it cheaper, and the amount that I bought wasn't enough to cover all the walls, and barely helped. This was done before I made this recording, as I have put some auditions up at ACX (Audible). But now I think it's not the walls but the dormer style windows which make echoey boxes right near where I am doing the recording. I could either try hanging blankets or moving the studio down into the basement and seeing what happens there. I think that before I go the hanging blankets route I will try the basement, as at least I will know if it's the room or the equipment.

Anyway here's the cleaned up file-

Again, any comments are appreciated. I am going to work on the echo issue before I upload anything else.

It sounded like you are not near the microphone. Ones built into the computer are not sufficient. What kind of microphone you are using? It should be an external USB microphone. Logitech has some nicely priced ones. I use a Yeti. It has a mono-directional setting that reduces any echoing.
I've got to run but I will take a listen later.
If you want more input until then please post in the Listeners forum and videos on how to do everything are in a sticky in " Need help".
You will be all sorted out in no time for your ACX work.

Thanks! I really don't think the echo is due to my equipment, I think it's because I am here in the top floor where there are dormer windows. I've got half a dozen different mics. My recording setup is right next to one, and there are two in this room. These dormer windows act like echo chambers!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dormer

I've done recordings in the basement and never had this problem. I think it would be a lot better if I moved the recording stuff down into the basement. I would have to hang blankets up here to shut off the dormer windows and I don't want to do that. I'll have to move the recording setup into the basement and try that before doing anything else.
