Hi! I’ll do the end, Section 14 - Chapter 25.
I’ll need about a week, however. Will that work out ok? —Marylou

I notice the footnotes are large and seem very important. Are we including the fottnotes in our readings?

" Regarding footnotes, it is up to the reader's discretion whether to include them or not. And yes, you're correct in thinking that they should be inserted at a logical break, rather than where they are noted in the text. "

(That's from the original BC.) :)

Hello TriciaG-- Here's the link to Section 14, Chapter 25. It comes in at 23:47, not counting the 5 seconds of silence at the end. https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/Battuta_14_battuta_128kb.mp3

One thing—& this may be a silly of me: I realize that this is a genuine historical artifact, and that one shouldn't expect the mores of the 21st century to apply to the 14th. That said, this chapter on Africa is full of references to "blacks" and even to cooking and eating them. While I am NOT suggesting that the text be expurgated, it might be worth considering a spoken preface of some kind that would be an equivalent to TV's "viewer discretion is advised."

In any case, regards,
Marylou

Thank you!

We don't allow audio commentary such as what you describe, but we can put a note in the written summary that goes on the catalog page. I'll put something in there. Thank you for the warning!

(And p.s. please always give the full duration of the file, including end silences. We use this to compare to the length that Archive.org shows, so that we can tell whether the file uploaded correctly. Archive doesn't care whether it's silence or vocals; they show the total length.) ;)

I'm making the executive decision to drop the preface from this project and proceed with cataloging the main text as-is. Moving on to cataloging...
