great readings, all of them, Tomas !!! All 8 sections PL ok. Wonderful job. I loved some of the moments where you are reading in character, for example the languishing tone in Matthew Lewis  Spices it up a bit.

This was a great boost forward.

Thanks

Hello,

I have attempted to make my first recordings of sections 44 and 46. :)

My 1 minute test passed the checker and waiting for official ok.

Thank you for these recordings.
You forgot to include the file length as requested, but I'v entered these in the MW for you since I did run them through Checker. The specs all passed, but there are a couple of other things that will need some small attention. I'll let Sonia give you the official PL.

Hello Kay :) congrats to your first LV recordings. On the whole, your reading is very nice to listen to and all in all you almost did a word-perfect recording.

Now the following notes may look huge at first glance, but please do not be shocked or disheartened, because each of them is really an easy-to-correct minor error. I only write so much, to be very precise in my hints for correction, especially with new readers, because I don't know how much technical know-how you have. So no panic, the editing process will not take that much time. Also, editing is getting easier and easier with each section you will record.

So please: do NOT re-record the entire section, only spot edit where I will tell you. It's much less time-consuming for both you and me to edit than to re-record and re-PL everything from scratch.

PL notes for Section 44:

> at 0:07: "all Librivox recordings are in the public domain" - here there is a very screeching rattling noise in the background, which hurt my ears while listening. :? Could you please re-record this sentence ? Or even easier, you could copy it from Section 46, where it was very clear and paste it over this one.
We should always try to get background noise to a minimum, so as soon as you hear the doorbell ringing, or an ambulance siren passing, for example, it's best to stop recording and re-doing the last sentence which was interrupted by the noise ;)

> at 0:36: "from Lockhart’s Peter’s Letters" - it was agreed at the beginning of this project that we would state the source with a "from" put in front of the title. Could you insert that word everywhere, where it's missing, please ? Once recorded, a simple copy/paste will do the job quickly. :)

> at 2:14: same here, please insert "from" before "S. C. Hall’s Memories of Great Men"

> at 3:09: also here: please insert "from" before "Froude’s Life of Carlyle"

> at 3:54: you have 7 seconds of silence at the end, we usually only require a standard 5. Could you here trim them down a bit, please ?

PL notes for Section 46:

> this section could benefit a bit from an overall background noise cleaning. Do you use Audacity and are you familiar with the noise-cleaning ? It's very easy to do:
> select a small portion where you don't speak (for example, between 0:22 and 0:23 would give a good sample for you here in this file)
> go to Effect - Noise Cleaning
> first select Get Noise Profile
> then highlight the entire recording
> again Effect - Noise Cleaning
> now select OK

> you started a bit abruptly, usually we leave between 0.5 and 1 second of silence at the beginning, but it's ok for this time. Just mentioning it, so you'd like to check this in your future recordings

> at 0:35: here again: missing "from" before "Leigh Hunt’s Autobiography"

> at 1:09: again, "from" S. C. Hall’s Memories of Great Men

> at 1:53: and one final time, please insert "from" Barham’s Life of Hook

> at 2:07: stumble and repeat: "naturally of the strongest order" - I hear "a - the"

> at 2:13: "to hold out promise" - you say "compromise" which is a change of meaning

> at 2:36: "to the epithet [Greek: boôpis]" - this is an editorial error in Gutenberg. I checked with the original scan and actually, the Greek word was written in Greek letters, and Gutenberg just flagged it for Greek under brackets. They actually should have put in the original Greek word in this place.
Please only read this (without mentioning "Greek") as: "to the epithet bo-ôpis" (with two distinct o's, not an "oo" sound).
You can see the original scan here: https://archive.org/stream/wordportraitsoff00wottrich#page/134/mode/2up

So you see, apart from 3 small textual errors, it's basically only the missing "from" that is required. It's an absolutely good recording, we only need to work out a few kinks.

So I would suggest, the best procedure will be:

> record in a separate Audacity window: the word "from" and the 4 parts of sentences I mentioned where you had errors
> noise-clean this short recorded section
> then copy the bits and paste them in your masterfiles into the correct spots
> after that, listen a bit to the sentence before and after your edited-in part and maybe adjust the volume by highlighting your inserted part, so the discrepancy in sound is not too audible
> trim the silence at the end of Section 44
> noise clean Section 46

That's it. If you still have questions, don't hesitate to ask. :)

Oh and when finished, please re-upload with the same file name (edit: just don't forget to add an extra 0 in front of 44 and 46, we need 3-digits), so the new file will replace the old file in the Magic Window.

One tiny note for the Introduction, though:

> at 5:45: "and Mr. S. C. Hall" - you turned him into a Mrs  not sure he would have liked that
