1. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
   To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.

3. Is there a deadline?
   Target completion date of this project: July 2008 – but try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it’ll go back to the pool. There’s no shame in this; we’re all volunteers and things happen.

6. BEFORE recording:

   Set your recording software to:
   Bit Rate: 128 kbps
   Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
7. DURING recording:
   Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording:
   Start of recording (Intro)
   • "[Section] of [Book title]. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
   • If you wish, say:
     "Recording by [your name]"
   • Say:
     "Tom Jones, by Henry Fielding. [Chapter]"
   
   End of recording
   • At the end of the section, say:
     “End of [Section]"
     If you wish, say:
     "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
   • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
     "End of Tom Jones, by Henry Fielding."
   
   Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes!
   Also, please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!
8. AFTER recording:
   Save files as
   128 kbps MP3
   tomjones_##_fielding.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is your section number. (tomjones_01_fielding.mp3)
   ID3 V2 tags

   Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use – if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!
   Title: ## - [Section title]
   Artist: Henry Fielding
   Album: Tom Jones
   Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.
   
   Transfer of files (completed recordings)
   Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file.
   Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.

Hello, here I am! Your friendly neighborhood MC here to save the day.

The first post looks fine to me as it is. However, regarding the compression of multiple chapters into one file...

I don't think it's necessary to announce "End of Chapter X" within the file -- just begin the next chapter. E.g.

"Chapter One.

It was a dark and stormy night.

Chapter Two.

Etc..."

Then, at the end of the recording, say:

"End of Section xx"

The number would be the section number claimed in the Magic Box.

Does that sound alright to you? I'll hold off on editing the first post to include that info until you agree.

your suggestion re. intro/outro stuff sounds fine to me. just whatever seems like the librivoxiest way of doing things...

will be back later to type in chapter headings properly and so on.

ok, one another thing when you return, caeristhiona (does that abbreviate at all, btw?) - i was going to include the intro in section 1, along with the first few chapters, so we don't need a section 0, just sections 1-65.

hefyd, 5-10 are yours, bearing in mind that this will be the whole of books II and III. there should be info up here on how all the sections break down within the next day.

on a general note, just waiting for caet to re-edit the recording instructions and get rid of the 'section 0' in the magic window. probably best for people to wait until everything is tidied up up there before actually recording anything, just to avoid possible confusion over chapter/section names and what you're supposed to say at the beginning and end.

looking forward to hearing how people do the voices in this one. lots of stupid old men to have fun with...

hosmer: I think I've gotten it down right as far as editing the first post, fixing the box, etc goes. Let me know if there's anything else you need. So far you seem to have a pretty good handle on how to manage this.

Now, about ID3 tags... Since a section is multiple chapters, what goes in the title box? The section number as you've laid them out? (I gather you want the multiple chapters in a single file.)
