I have found out over the years that doing only this - while it is very simple - can make replacements in the text rather jarring to the listener.

Maybe the word "commission" is embedded in a sentence where the flow doesn't allow it to be easily cut and replaced. It also makes a difference in intonation if a word is in the middle of a sentence, just before a comma, or at the very end of a paragraph. If you give me a couple words of context, I can account for all that.

Yes, librivoxing is a hobby for everyone on here. Still, I like to do my best whenever possible, and I think it would be nice if the DPL could help me with that. It's his/her project too, right? :D
Cheers, Ava.

Hello! Welcome to LibriVox!

Section 24 is all yours.

Before you record for this project it is strongly recommended that you complete a 1-minute test. This helps ensure that you have everything set up correctly and that your audio is at the correct levels which saves you from having to re-record files for projects like this one. Here is the wiki page on how to record, upload, and receive feedback on your 1-minute test:
http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test

Also, if you haven't already seen it, the Newbie Guide to Recording is a page you should read through:
http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording

I have added you to the LibriVox catalog, you can see your catalog page at: https://librivox.org/reader/12293. You can also get to this by clicking on your name in the Magic Window (MW). This is a good place to look to keep track of recordings you've signed up for, to see section details click on the link to "Reader Section Details" which appears just a few lines down from your name. This page includes your forum name "adrien" and can also contain your real name or a pseudonym, plus a web site/blog if you have one you would like to link to. Let me know if you would like to add a name and/or a web site.

Again, welcome to LibriVox and enjoy!

PL OK!

'Ratiocination', now that's a word you don't hear much nowadays...

Oh, and 'most compendious, as well as stupendious' is the best thing I've heard all day.

You know, I kind of assumed you were male, with the username 'adrien'...

And got to love some spontaneous generation. It sounds silly to our modern ears, but they honestly believed that flies were made by rotting flesh, for example.

It only makes sense that large animals should break apart into smaller animals, right?

Can I do 54 and 23 as well? 23 might take a little longer... I need a refresher on latin pronunciation.

They're yours!

Couple of suggestions for Latin help:
  • Forvo - This does have some Latin, so it's a good place to start.
  • Wiktionary - Has a surprisingly complete set of Latin words, along with the length of the vowels, which is useful along with...
  • Latin Pronunciation Demystified - The table on page 5 is very useful.
Also check out the Wiki page on foreign words.

Hi John,

One small thing:

1:39: 'pois'd and ready in one place' should be 'pois'd and steady in one place'.

Oh, and not an PL Note, but I hate it when he leaves us on a cliffhanger...
