Welcome to LibriVox! I see this is your first post here. I'll hold the part of Lewson for you for now, but I'll need you to complete a 1-minute test before I can assign it. Please read the Newbie Guide to Recording (http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording), which will give you all the information you need. Once your test is approved, check back with me here. I will only hold this role for about a week, so try to have your test done as soon as possible.

Also, since you don't have a reader page yet, I need to know what name you would want to be registered with for our catalog. It can be the same as your forum name, your real name, or another pseudonym.

Thanks again for your interest; I look forward to hearing back! :)

Well, I'm not sure that I can put much of a sense of menace into my voice, so I'm probably not a very convincing villain.

Good heart, but weak-willed and gullible? That sounds like me. Howsabout I play Beverley?

Thanks, Todd

You're in! Yet another tragic hero role down, hehe. You did a great job with Oroonoko, so I'm sure you'll excel with our woebegone gambler here, too.

Well now, Todd, Donald Pleasence wasn't exactly a tough guy, but he still made an excellent Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Who needs "menace" in one's voice, when you can freak people out with "softly-spoken psycho"? Do you think anyone on the bus would notice if you kept repeating the line "You only live twice, Mr Bond." ...?

Of course, there are other avenues. I for one would contribute to crowdfunding your breakout role as "The Toddfather".

The reader who claimed Lewson has not completed his one-minute test, so I'm opening up the role again.

awww, Jarvis is so melancholy  your way of speaking was really tearing at my heart-strings, Alan. Are there only tragic people in this play ? Excellently done. Loved it. Looking forward to the next acts. Act 1 PL ok. Great start !

Thanks

and I'm back in the game :D (haha, pun intended)

Here is Lucy, quite a short role this time, but I gave my best with my song to move ye all to tears. Hope it pleases. Oh and I had a blast putting all the disdain I could muster up into my voice while saying "Mr. Stukely, madam" It should be a stark contrast to the usually soft-hearted Lucy. But this guy is simply not a favourite of hers.

Lucy is PL OK, Sonia! So glad to see you back in the saddle after your brief recording hiatus. :9: Lucy doesn't have many lines, but you always make the count, and your dripping disdain over Stukely is perfect! The song is the cherry on top---like a very caring lullaby. :)

I could read the stage directions.

Normally if a script says “to character 2” I also read the name of the character speaking: “character 1 to character 2”. I do the same if the script includes reading directions for the actor, e.g. “character 1 (angrily)” etc. But this is a matter of preference for the BC, so let me know what you would like.

Thank you, Rob! :)

That's how we usually go about it. If there's a direction to indicate who's speaking to who, or their tone, we usually read it that way. Sometimes we cut out stage directions if the reader's tone is sufficiently evident, but we get the narrator to read everything to be on the safe side.
