THE COMPLETE WORKS OF ARTEMUS WARD PART 2, WAR. by Charles Farrar Browne (1834 - 1867).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-complete-works-of-artemus-ward-part-2-war-by-jefferson-b-browne/

Charles Farrar Browne, a native of Maine, became famous as a writer and lecturer under the name of Artemus Ward. Like his friend Mark Twain, Browne worked as a type-setter in his youth and in 1858, began publishing a series of letters, essays, and stories told in the first person by a droll, illiterate rube with a good measure of subtle common sense who commented on the events and fads of the day. Taking his character to the stage as a lecturer, Browne became an early-day prototype of what we now name a stand-up comedian. Artemus Ward was such a favorite of President Abraham Lincoln that the chief executive read one of the Ward stories to his assembled cabinet officers before getting down to the business of discussing the proposed Emancipation Proclamation. Browne’s writings became popular in England as well as in America, and he travelled to Britain to perform his Artemus Ward lectures and contribute to the comic magazine Punch. Browne contracted tuberculosis and died at the age of thirty-two in Southampton. (There was a real Artemus Ward, a general in the Continental Army during the American Revolution.) ( Delmar H. Dolbier)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Have you tried logging out and logging back in? There is no obvious reason why you can't get in. If it still won't work, I'll refer it to Jo.

Could you explain exactly what the problem is, and the error message you are getting? You managed to upload 2 files, so it appears you are getting to the uploader. There is no link from the Magic Window to the Uploader, so we are finding it difficult to understand the problem.

Delmar:

Do you need a DPL? This looks like fun.

Many thanks,

Philip

Yes, I was wrong about the MW. I meant the part following the MW, where it says "Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader:https://librivox.org/login/uploader."
It used to be that you could click on "https://librivox.org/login/uploader" and get to the Uploader, but now you can't click on it.

It's no problem for me to get to the Uploader by entering "https://librivox.org/login/uploader" in my browser.

That should have fixed it.

Adding Philip as DPL.

Glad to be here with you both. I see two sections in the MW--I'll get to work.

Many thanks,

Philip

Delmar:

Sections 2, 3, 4 are PL-OK! Nicely done!

Section 1:

At 4:42 I heard "that's the price": I expected "what's the price"

Section 5:

At 9:38 I heard "we believe": I expected still believe.

You're off to a great start!

Many thanks

Philip
