I want to submit the Lincoln speech (480 words) at Independence Hall February 22, 1861. I clicked on the Gutenberg.org site on your page 1 and found the speech. This was the address but I want to see if you can find the speech from this url - it does not work for me. Once I get the correct url there are other Lincoln letters and speeches that are worthy.

I would like to submit Lincoln's From his First Message to Congress, at the Special Session. July 4, 1861 from the Gutenberg Project which begins ... It is thus seen that the assault upon and reduction of Fort Sumter This item from Gutenberg Project leaves out - as you can see - the first several paragraphs of the speech. The speech actually begins "Fellow citizens of the Senate...." I know Librivox is sensitive about leaving out parts of speeches and letters SO should I read just the Gutenberg parts or should I read the entire speech (which is very long). This a good speech especially the part about the beginning of the civil war and Fort Sumter.

Hello mlee. Thank you for your reading of Lincoln's address in Independence Hall. :) I have entered it in the MW and it is now ready to be proof listened by our DPL, Craig.

In response to your question about Lincoln's first message to Congress, you have a choice. You can read either the full speech, or you can read the shortened (edited) version from the compilation you sited in your post. What matters is, firstly, that the source you choose is PD; and, secondly, that you follow the text as you find it, i.e. you yourself do not edit what is on the page.

For someone who appreciates oratory, the full speech would probably be the choice. Here is a PD source: https://archive.org/stream/lincolnsinaugura3962linc#page/10/mode/2up

Or, if you prefer to "get at" just the "pith" of the speech, the source you quote in your post would be fine: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/14721/14721-h/14721-h.htm#51

Hello mlee, Thank you for this additional speech by Lincoln. Before we go any further, I am going to ask you a favor and that is that you make a change in the file names for both Lincoln's Independence Hall speech and his Thanksgiving speech, and re-upload both those files and post the new uploaded files here in the thread.

The reason I am asking you to do this is that you have submitted the same file name for both of these recordings. When you send up a 2nd recording with the exact same file name as the first one you send, what happens is that the second file overwrites the first in the Magic Window. So, what happened when you just now uploaded the "Thanksgiving" file, it overrode the "Independence Hall" recording in the Magic Window. Trying to unravel this situation would not be an easy task.

So, please send up your two recordings with these file names:

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/snf053_independence_lincoln_ml_128kb.mp3

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/snf053_thanksgiving_lincoln_ml_128kb.mp3

Note that where you had the word "speeches" I have substituted a word that is specific to each particular recording, so we can tell them apart.

Once I have the new uploads, I will add your latest recording to the Magic Window. Please note, at the present there is a limit of three recordings per person per volume of the non-fiction collection, so the Thanksgiving speech will be your last selection for this volume.

Here are #2 of Independence and Thanksgiving - I see the problem

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/snf053_independence_lincoln_ml_128kb.mp3 3:39.5

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/snf053_thanksgiving_lincoln_ml_128kb.mp3 4:14.5

SO 1. = Mayflower 2. = Independence 3. = Thanksgiving. May I submit different person or subject and different url

That must have been a difficult reading Availle

I have listed the errors I found. You can decide which should be changed.

    Thanks

8:00 which shall intersect a third right line drawn from the touch point – forgot right

19:13 AB×pq×yzquad.xi×KLquad fourth paragraph from bottom – said Kee for Kay

21:52 to the line xy, that is as PQXIpFquad to pqxiPFquad. Forgot to say times in first equation

22:50 consequence equal, the quantities PQXIpFquad & pqxiPFquad. Forgot to say times in second equation
