Hi Availle, As always, you read technical material very well! :) :)

As you know, Craig will be doing the formal DPL for you, but I did listen to your recording. Newton's argument is way over my head, but , as I followed along, I heard a small number of differences from the text. Given how technical the reading is, I thought I would add my PL notes to those you will receive from Craig.

2:36.5 "at the end of the second moment..." (you said "movement")

19:09 in the written equation ABxPQxYZ cubed [over] XI x KL cubed , you pronounced the "K" as "key"

22:30, in the last paragraph "as also pq, xi becoming coincident" (you read "small x, small y")

I have one other question about the text. In the third paragraph from the end, which begins "And because the lines PY py are by the revolving body described in equal times..." the last sentence of that paragraph begins "Whence PQ [over] XI [times] YZ cubed is to....." The "cubed" is represented by a raised small "q." The other three equations in that sentence all read "quadrupled" represented by the abbreviation "quad." What I'm wondering is if the first "cubed" should have read "quadrupled?"

Would "The Discovery of Witchcraft" by Matthew Hopkins be appropriate for this collection? I've been wanting to record that for a while.

Hi Bweston23, Yes, I think Matthew Hopkins' The Discovery of Witches would be appropriate for this collection: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Hopkins.

Hi BT, Thanks for this account of Florentine history! :) I like the premise of the series "great events by famous historians." It looks like there are quite a few interesting topics!

Thanks for the story of Lorenzo Medici VfkaBT.

I enjoyed listening.

two errors noted

3:03 many-sided men who adorned the Italy of the fifteenth century, - you read thirteenth century

4:01 at one and the same time the glorious creation and the splendid epitome of the spirit of the Renaissance- you forgot to read time

Thank you for the answer on Lincoln Independence Hall - I think I will submit the short version from Gutenberg

mlee

Hello mlee, Thank you for this additional speech by Lincoln. Before we go any further, I am going to ask you a favor and that is that you make a change in the file names for both Lincoln's Independence Hall speech and his Thanksgiving speech, and re-upload both those files and post the new uploaded files here in the thread.

The reason I am asking you to do this is that you have submitted the same file name for both of these recordings. When you send up a 2nd recording with the exact same file name as the first one you send, what happens is that the second file overwrites the first in the Magic Window. So, what happened when you just now uploaded the "Thanksgiving" file, it overrode the "Independence Hall" recording in the Magic Window. Trying to unravel this situation would not be an easy task.

So, please send up your two recordings with these file names:

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/snf053_independence_lincoln_ml_128kb.mp3

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/snf053_thanksgiving_lincoln_ml_128kb.mp3

Note that where you had the word "speeches" I have substituted a word that is specific to each particular recording, so we can tell them apart.

Once I have the new uploads, I will add your latest recording to the Magic Window. Please note, at the present there is a limit of three recordings per person per volume of the non-fiction collection, so the Thanksgiving speech will be your last selection for this volume.

Here are #2 of Independence and Thanksgiving - I see the problem

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/snf053_independence_lincoln_ml_128kb.mp3 3:39.5

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/snf053_thanksgiving_lincoln_ml_128kb.mp3 4:14.5

SO 1. = Mayflower 2. = Independence 3. = Thanksgiving. May I submit different person or subject and different url

mlee (Boo trick or treat)

I know the limit is 3 submissions but you do offer the invitation to ask permission to submit number 4 -
You may read up to 3 selections per volume; more than that, please check with the book coordinator.

So would you accept my number 4 THE GLORY OF THE SAVIOUR’S TRANSFIGURATION by the rev. Daniel Bagot from THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND MAGAZINE, January 9, 1841

OR should I wait for Vol 54

As book coordinator, I hew to the philosophy that the Nonfiction Collection should, in each volume, give opportunity to a number of different people to record material relevant to their interests. The Nonfiction Collection is also an on-going feature of LibriVox, as is evidenced by the fact that we are now on volume 53. There is always a new volume to look forward to. I appreciate your eagerness, but I am going to ask you to limit your contributions to the current volume to those three you have already submitted.

Sue, I have just uploaded in two files, ,whose lengths are 47:35 and 38:39 respectively, containing a reading of Mark Twain's essay on the legendary 3-day sitting of the Austro-Hungarian Parliament.
The source for the readings is:
https://ecommons.cornell.edu/handle/1813/2170

They have successfully passed Checker and have a nominal volume of 90db.

The file names are:
snf053_stirringtimes1of2_marktwain_bj.mp3 (47:35)
and
snf053_stirringtimes2of2_marktwain_bj.mp3 (38:39)

The upload info is:

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/snf053_stirringtimes2of2_marktwain_bj.mp3 38:38

What need I do next?

Welcome, William, to the Nonfiction Collection! We're happy to have your contribution to Vol. 53! :)

Thank you for this 2-part recording of Mark Twain's Stirring Times in Austria. I think it will attract many listeners, particularly as it complements Michele Fry's reading, in vol. 46 of the Nonfiction Collection, of Twain's follow-up to this essay, which appeared in a later edition of Harper's. (https://librivox.org/short-nonfiction-collection-vol-046-by-various/).

I have placed your essay in the Magic Window as #13 and #14. I am going to ask you one favor, however, and that is that you re-upload both of these recordings with the addition to the title names of "128kb." The file name should be written thus: snf053_stirringtimes1of2_twain_bj_128kb.mp3. This will bring your files into conformity with the way file names are written for the nonfiction collection. [For info on file names, please see paragraph #2 in the instructions.]

I looked at the source you give for the Twain essay. If this were the only on-line source available, I would accept it, since it is an academic source, but I always try to find an on-line source for the actual original magazine article if possible. Volume 96 of Harper's Magazine is available on Google books: https://books.google.com/books?id=UlwwAQAAMAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=harper's+magazine&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjL4MHf1a_XAhUL04MKHdOgBZIQ6AEITzAH#v=onepage&q=harper's%20magazine&f=false. This is the source we will use to catalog your reading.

I will wait for you to re-upload your files with the "128kb" added before I enter them in the Magic Window, but I am giving Craig, our dedicated proof listener, the go-ahead to proof listen, using the Google Books source I have listed above. Twain's essay starts on page 530.

With best wishes,

Sue, I would like to record Robert Ingersoll's A Thanksgiving Sermon, hopefully for inclusion in this Thanksgiving volume. It is about 70 minutes, so I'll do it in 2 parts. I have already recorded this for LV in Robert Ingersoll, Vol 4, but it was with my old microphone and sounds like my nose is pinched with a chip clip. Hurts to listen to it. Furthermore it can't be found by title there as it was included as part of a book even though Ingersoll's lectures were all free-standing treatises. I want to do it again. I hope you can make room for me in this issue, and if I hurry, it can be catalogued by Thanksgiving.

Thanks for reminding me of my Twain essay, Concerning The Jews. That was a good'un. Stirring Times in Austria is also very interesting.
