Technocracy by William Henry Smyth.

This project is complete! All audio files are available on our catalog page:
https://librivox.org/technocracy-by-william-henry-smyth/

William Henry Smyth, a Californian engineer, is usually credited with inventing the word "technocracy" in 1919 to describe "the rule of the people made effective through the agency of their servants, the scientists and engineers" (Wikipedia)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/technocracyworki00smytrich
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    • Say:
"Technocracy, by William Henry Smyth. [Section]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Section [number] of Technocracy by William Henry Smyth. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Section title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Section]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Technocracy, by William Henry Smyth. "

There should be about 5 seconds of silence at the end of the recording.

OK, you're all set! Your author is not the same William Henry Smyth who's already in our database, so I'll get that sorted out, but you can start uploading anytime.

Just one minor quibble. The silence at 33:29-33:35 is maybe 2s too long. I was reaching for my player thinking something was wrong with the file/player. If you feel strongly that it shouldn't be changed than so be it.

Dave,

At around 35:25, page 33, there is a section that is written funky and was not very audiobook friendly. Let me know if you have any opinion of that section.

4 PL OK.

Well...I'm not sure what point he is trying to make, other than a genuine distrust of "credit." He gets pretty emotional about it. Your read of this section though sounds fine.
