I ran across the original reference to Bairnsfather when I read James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small. There is a second volume following this one, called from Mud to Mufti which picks up the story where this one leaves off (in the same style). It was completed in 1919 and I intend to do it after this one. Call it my contribution to the commemoration of the Great War. I'm glad you are enjoying the work. (I wish I could find a way to "read" the illustrations and cartoons; but there's no way to do justice to them.)
