Alex the Younger:

Congratulations on your first Librivox recording! Section 8 has a few issues, but they are all fairly easy to fix--(there is seldom any need to re-record a section, and no need at all here).

The volume of your recording is a little low. The checker put it at 85.6 db. The target is 89 db +/-3db. If you don't have the checker, you can download it here....http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker

The remainder of these items are all cut and paste work......

You should leave about 5 seconds of silence at the end of the recording. There is a little over one second at the end here.

At 5:43 I heard "the same of each species": I expected "the nature of each species"
At 19:30 and 19:37 the phrase "you say" occurs: I did not expect to hear it
At 20:30 the phrase "by it" is omitted.

If you have questions about any of this, don't hesitate to ask. Phil or I will walk you through this..
I enjoyed your reading and look forward to hearing you again soon.

Many thanks,

Philip

Please feel free to review and give me any feedback to make this section better. I imagine there may be a few things to fix.

Thanks

Allow me to add my Welcome to Librivox! And congratulations on your first recording!! One quick tip...whenever you post a link to a new recording, be sure to include the running length of the file. That information is necessary for cataloging purposes.

There are a few minor issues with this recording, but nothing that should require you to "start over"

1. There is a considerable amount of background noise in the recording. Here is information on correcting that :http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noise_Cleaning In addition, Phil Chenevert, our MC has a number of useful videos on the subject also posted on the wiki.

The noise is most intrusive (it threatens to drown out your voice) at 2:45-315; 6:25-6:40; 12:20-1300; 16:15-16:25; 19:40-1950 and 26:36-26:44. The noise reduction will likely take care of a lot of this, but double check these sections after you have run the noise reduction...they may need to be re-recorded.

2. At 11:01 I heard "what you have accustom yourself" : I expected "what you have you accustom yourself"

3. At 1842-18:53 the phrase "and reasoning beings is repeated (from earlier).

4 At 20:59 there is a 10 second pause.

5. At 21:31 I heard "willingly" : I expected "unwillingly"

6. At 26:05 paragraph 73 in the text is omitted.

7: At 26:44, the phrase "End of The Meditations of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius" does not belong in this section but at the end of the book and should be cut out.

If you have any questions about the above, feel free to ask. We're here to help.

This was a good first effort. I enjoyed your reading and look forward to listening to many more sections in the future.

Many thanks,

Philip

RE: Section 11

Marcus:

Forgive me for not getting this PL'd sooner. I've been overtaken by some unforeseen events, but I did manage to get this finished today.

Nicely read! There is a little work to be done before it can be marked PL-OK, but nothing that requires the entire file to be re-recorded and nothing serious.

-The amplification for the entire section is too low. The checker rated the amplification at 79.4 db--the range here at librivox is 86-92db. (In audacity, simply re-highlight the entire file go the the Amplify effect under the Effect menu, and follow the instructions. Phil may have some other suggestions--that's just how I do it.) Instructions for using the Checker and the download link are located herehttp://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker.

-The paragraph numbers need to be omitted. They occur at 0:19, 1:52; 2:28; 2:54; 3:05;3:18;4:33;4:43;5:49;6:21;6:55;7:12;7:31;8:15;8:25;9:15;10:17;10:29;14:50;15:28;16:39;17:14;17:21:17:29;17:39;17:50;18:00;18:17;18:31;18:40;18:45;18:49;18:55;19:03;19:22;19:31;19:39;20:02; 20:11.

-The ending for the file is missing. (Just record it and past on the end) This is from the first post on the board:

"END of recording
At the end of the section, say:
"End of [Book #]"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"

-The following phrases need re-recording (just cut and paste them in and remove the existing ones)

at 4:59 I heard "the same external agency" : I expected "some external agency"
at 7:27 I heard "truth of all beings" : I expected "truth of all things"
at 10:48 I heard "there is neither" : I expected "there is either"

If you have any questions about the above, please do not hesitate to ask. We're all here to help. I appreciated your reading.

Many thanks,

Philip

Phil:

If you can find someone to PL me (and you don't mind), I'll read Book 10. If you'd prefer I didn't, I absolutely understand (no problem).
