8:20 - "that Spitzer, even Spitz-- Spitzer was asking for a raise" - Has a bit of a jump in the vocal, not sure if it's the way it's written or a mistake. Would you please listen to this part and see if it's the way you want it?

28:34-28:37 - stumble & repeat: "Spitzer involuntarily leaped..."

Thanks Delmar.
Tricia will take a listen when she is back from her train trip. Don't know about you, but I am a bit jealous!

Corrected the repeat at 28:34. I want to keep 8:20 as it is; I think it expresses Regan's amazement and consternation.

I can't understand why I don't get to go on the WV train ride!

Please edit to make it better:
Frank L. Packard worked as a civil engineer for the Canadian Pacific Railway, so he knows what he’s talking about when he describes early-day railroading on the fictional Hill Division, those twisting, climbing, dangerous and glorious miles of track that lead from the Division Point at Big Cloud over the magnificent but treacherous Rockies to the straight and level Pacific Division. Here are fifteen stories of exciting times on the Hill Division and of the remarkable men—Regan, Carlton, Spence and all the others—whose determination, ability, even heroism, tamed the fabulous Hill Division.

Chapter 5 PL OK! EDIT: And so is 6. :)

I'm back. :) Here are my photos:
You need a password; it's "elkins" (the name of the town we started in).

There are many almost duplicate photos; I didn't cull them down, but uploaded all of them.

First we rode on a train with one passenger car, an old mail car (that's where they served our buffet deli lunch) and a diesel engine. Then we stopped and waited for the coal-fired steam engine to come around the bend. You'll see pics of the steam engine coming up while the diesel is waiting. We took the steam engine train (with open-air cars) up a couple thousand feet to Bald Knob, a scenic outlook. Then it took us down to Cass, WV, which used to be a logging town but is now a state park. Stayed in one of the "company houses" there (darn! I didn't think to get pics of those!) overnight, then rode the steam train back to where the diesel picked us up for the ride back to Elkins.

On the way back on the steam train, we passed another steam excursion train on a switchback. You'll see a few pics of the other train as we passed it.

What fun! Was it like traveling the Hill Division only without a wreck in every story?

No runaway trains or cars, and we took the sharp curves and down grades nice and slow. 8-)

The steam train had crazy squealing brakes on a lot of the ride down. They had air brakes, but they used the hand brakes on all the cars because they work better. If you ever do the run, take ear plugs.

Thanks for sharing Tricia. Those are great pictures - some beautiful scenery, and I loved when the trains passed and you took pictures of them taking pictures of you!

You take the best vacations!

I don't think the first line ought to be part of the Summary.

It won't be . . . but I left it in there for now as a reminder to Tricia and me to review and let you know if we had suggested changes before I cataloged the project. I have to sprinkle reminders around for myself or I forget . . .
