I know I'm probably such a suspicious bastard but all through this chapter I could not take a liking to this Uncle Jim. I constantly suspected him of being a con-man trying to lure these poor gullible people into some shady scheme of his, make them work for him

Maybe it was the tone of voice you are doing, it somehow sounds a bit sarcastic and not altogether whole-heartedly honest.

Anyway, wonderfully entertaining again and no errors, so PL ok

Not sure of the origin , but Hughie is slang for he who is responsible for rain or drought or whatever good or bad things that are part of nature. Like the weather

Puts me in mind of that old Emile Mercier cartoon of two Sydney con-men discussing their plans.

Doreen's developed a bit more spunk after six years of married life.
