A Short Discourse Concerning Pestilential Contagion, and the Methods to Be Used to Prevent It by Richard Mead (1673 - 1754).

This project is now in the catalogue. All audio files can be found on our catalogue page:
http://librivox.org/a-short-discourse-concerning-pestilential-contagion-and-the-methods-to-be-used-to-prevent-it-by-richard-mead/

This is a work written about the plague in France and how to prevent its spread. It is considered an important historical work for the understanding of transmittable diseases. ( afutterer)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/54843
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

      Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity has much improved noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.
      Save files as
      128 kbps MP3

    9. ID3 V2 tags are not necessary.
Enter section/chapter titles in the MW. Author and book title will be set automatically during cataloging.

Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
      • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader:
        https://librivox.org/login/uploader
        Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
      • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: Darvinia
      • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
      • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

All set to go!

I took the liberty of removing the apostrophe from "it's" in the summary.

I drastically shortened the filename, it was HUGEMONGOUS! :) Automatically generated from the title. And added the required _128kb at the end.

I changed "chapter" to "section" for the intros and outros.

I think that's it! If I've missed anything or screwed anything up, let me know. I'll leave this in the launch pad for a day or so to let people know what's coming up. Maybe we'll fill it before we move!

Have fun!
Bev

Bev, I think section 04 can be removed. I am not seeing an outro in the text. Let me know what you think please. Thanks!

Yes, I agree. I will remove the fourth section and move us to Readers Wanted when I get to my regular computer later.

This looks as if it's been languishing for a while. Would you be open to me picking it up as a solo?

Cheers,
Paul

I just want to let everyone know that I will be leaving next week Friday, 8/4/17 and will not return home until Tuesday, 8/15/17. During this time I will not be able to PL, and will most likely not be in the forums...much. But I will catch up upon return! I am taking the family to Jellystone Campground. Thank you all!

I thought it looked interesting too, but don't know if that's just me since it almost meshes with my professional interests - one of the reasons* I was keen to hog the lot.

Anyway, here's the introduction to kick things off:
https://librivox.org/uploads/darvinia/pestilentialcontagion_01_mead_128kb.mp3
3m41s

There's a grammatical error at 1m26 which I found jarring to read but it's in the text so is Mead's error rather than mine.

Cheers,
Paul

[* The other main reason is that when I try to be an advocate for LibriVox, the response from most of my friends is that they find the changes of voice jarring so I'm very glad to add to the solo oeuvre and make that a less valid criticism!]
