Good to know about the glossary page. Interesting question about the forum symbols, I never paid much attention to them before. Looks like phpBB has some support and documents, perhaps they can be found there. Looks like Carolin gave some explanation of them in your forum question, maybe that will help, too. Let me know if there's anything more I can explain about anything LV.

Jill :)

ETA (edited to add): Also, I notice that if you hover over the symbols they will give you a pop-up text explanation of what they are. That's a super easy way to figure them out.

Carolyn gave an excellent explanation. Hover is cool too, but not as detailed at Carolyn.

Wanted to make sure I say the correct things at the start & end of the recording.

Do I say "section 11" or "section number 11"?

For " Vol. 01" do I say "volume zero one" or "volume one"?

Do I say "January 13" or "January 13th"?

What is the "Section title" for section 11? I didn't see it in the table of contents.

I know when I start the 2nd story, I should say "Stories of Dogs", but before that, do I say "end of The Egg Tombola"? If I don't say that, then the listener might think the 2nd story is just a subsection of the 1st story.

In Magic Window, under Notes for my name, what does "Clmd July 4" mean?

Hi Vicki,

There's not really any strict rules about what to say. As long as what you say follows the rules laid out in the first post, it should be fine. Having said that, here's what I would expect.
vpelton wrote:Do I say "section 11" or "section number 11"?
Section Eleven
vpelton wrote:For " Vol. 01" do I say "volume zero one" or "volume one"?
Volume One
vpelton wrote:Do I say "January 13" or "January 13th"?
This one really doesn't matter. Just say it how you would normally say a date.

The section title is technically "The Egg Tombola; Stories of Dogs", but during the intro, just say “The Egg Tombola“.

I see what you mean, but so far no-one else has done that, so I don't think you need to.

It means 'Claimed on July 4'. It's so that we can easily see how long it's been since you claimed your section (as we don't want sections to stay claimed but unrecorded for long periods).

I'd recommend listening to previous issues, so you can see how other people dealt with things like multiple parts per section.

Thanks Jordan for helping answer questions! I have a very busy weekend and my time on LV will be limited so I'm glad to know Vicki didn't have to wait around for me. :)

MaryAnn -- Can you update Vicki's/vpelton's catalog name and add her website please?

I've completed section 11.

https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/hyp011_11_various_128kb.mp3

length = 6:06

After doing the recording, I then ran it thru the de-clicker, noise reduction & amplified it. This is my very first submission, so be sure to tell me what else I should be doing. I'm excited about submitting my first reading.

I ran it through the Checker program and all the technical specs look great! Jordan, our proof listener, will stop by and take a listen to it sometime soon and get back to you with any notes. Congrats on your first submission!

Hi Vicki,

Very good for a first recording! You seem to have applied those tool correctly, as I didn't hear any clicking or other noise.

I do have one note, however:

3:57: I'm hearing 'scarily' rather than 'scarcely'

Thanks for your comments.

I uploaded the changed file:

It's the same name, of course, but I think that's all taken care of.

Yay! Thank you for listening. I will look at the others and maybe choose another one. Could you make some suggestions for improving my reading?

Hi Vicki,

There's a page on the Wiki all about how to improve recording.

However, most of the things listed are not a problem in your recording. I suppose there is a bit of a plosive problem at times. Listen to the 'th' of 'thirteenth' at 0:06 or the 'p' of 'public' at 0:13.
