Thank you for the recording! :D It was saved with the wrong section number, but I can fix it behind the scenes if there are no other corrections to be made. I'll listen later today :)

Hi Katherine,

Here are the amplified versions of sections 37 (3:45) and 38 (2:29), hopefully they'll now be loud enough.

Hi Katherine,

Here is Section 125. Please let me know if it sounds clean or if I need to amplify.

Thanks,

kathrinee wrote:Well done on your first recording, section 65!  You have a soothing voice, sounds great.

I have a suggestion for improvement in the recording and one thing to be aware of going forward. My suggestion for improvement is to get rid of some background white noise. Especially in the first 30 seconds there is a fair bit of room noise. It is easy to clean some of it away using Audacity. Select a few seconds of background noise only (no speech) (for instance from the very end of the recording) and click Effect | Noise Reduction | Get Profile. Then select the whole recording (Ctrl+A), click Effect | Noise Reduction again, and use settings:

Noise Reduction: 10 dB
Sensitivity: 6
Frequency smoothing (bands) 6

and click OK.
It should help!

Please see if you get a cleaner result, save with the same name, upload and post again in this thread.

The thing to keep in mind for later is input volume. (By the way, the volume of this section is great. ) If the input volume is too high, the blue squiggles in the Audacity window get "squashed" at the to and bottom, where they hit the wall (so to speak). This causes what we call clipping. There are a very few, short examples of this in your recording (for instance at 00:49 "while she was playing"). When you record, I think it is best if the input volume is a little bit lower, even if that means you have to amplify the recording afterward (just make sure you don't check the box that says "Allow Clipping" when amplifying). Anyway, I would not worry about it for this recording, because the instances are so few and short. Please rest assured you've done a good job and produced a very nice first recording!

(Please let me know if I'm talking gibberish, and I'll explain more...)
Thanks a lot Kathrine! You are very kind :)
I did as you suggested and it definitely sounds cleaner now. I'll keep the input volume in mind next time.

Also, can I claim Section 96? It has just such a lovely story. (Though how are you supposed to pronounce Princess Coeca:)? Seeka as in Phoenix or Coca like Coca-cola?)

Hi Kathrine.

May I claim 44 and 46?

They are such nice breaks from 24 minute long chapters.

Any recording suggestions, as per usual, please do not hesitate to impart your seasoned wisdom.

Thanks.

When I prerecord my parts and come across a word/name I'm not familiar with, I highlight it and google it requesting a pronunciation. Usually Utube comes up with a standard pronunciation. ie., Coeca came up sounding like "Kwecka". (Just my 2 cents worth.)

Hi Katherine,

Here's the next one, hoping to finish my little group of sections by the weekend. I have amplified it a little already as my recordings seem to generally be a bit quiet, and it's been passed by checker so hopefully it's all ok. Let me know if there's any problems!

Section 39 (2:33):

I am sorry I've taken so long to listen to all the recordings and edits you all have submitted -- there have been lots of RL practicalities to deal with. I'm hoping to get to them before the end of the weekend :D

Hi Katherine,

Here's my last section. I seem to have some gremlins in my mic today (!) so if any of the bangs/knocks are off putting then let me know and I can re-record it (unless there's any way of removing them?).

Section 40 (2:41):
