The Problems of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found in the catalog here.
http://librivox.org/the-problems-of-philosophy-by-bertrand-russell-2/
This 1912 book remains among the most widely-used and well-written introductions to philosophy in English. It was aimed to be an accessible introduction to philosophy for the average shopkeeper in England in 1912. Despite its accessibility It has engaged scholarly philosophical commentators on a range of issues raised in the work. Above all it conveys in easy and witty manner the philosophical frame of mind to those that have never encountered it before. It was almost immediately, and remains today, a classic. This recording is dedicated to Jill Evans, Esq. (Landon D. C. Elkind)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/problemsofphilo00russuoft
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Howdy folks,

I should note that this book has already been recorded. I hope I can still do a duplicate recording. The first recording is linked below. Thanks kindly!

At 3:06, there is a repeat, "By turning my head..... By turning my head, I see out of the window..."

Otherwise, ch. 1 is ok.

Ch. 1 is now PL OK.

Ch. 2 is missing the chapter title. After "Hamilton, Ontario," you should repeat the name of the work and state the chapter title, as in the first post: "The Problems of Philosophy, by Bertrand Russell. Chapter 2: The Existence of Matter."

Since this is a solo recording, all chapters after chapter 1 can use the shortened disclaimer. I can't listen at the moment to see if this is the case, but assuming that is what Landon is doing, then he only needs the chapter title.
For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
"Chapter [number] of The Problems of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Only if applicable, say:
"[Chapter title]"

That's true, thank you. He did use the longer disclaimer, but I didn't think to point out that the other one can be used.

Howdy folks,

I think I was using a slight mixture of the short and long opening. Here is how it currently goes:

START of recording (Intro):
"Chapter [number] of The Problems of Philosophy. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say:
[Chapter number, title]"

If I should stick a second repetition of the title of the book in there, please let me know and I will be happy to do so. (I didn't for these two because I only just saw the posts after recording.)

As such, Section 2 is ready for spot-PL. Section 3 is ready for PL. I am sorry for my confusion about the opening, and I will be happy to correct it as required.

Yours Truly,
Landon

Ok, chapter title is in now, and it sounds good to me. I'm willing to say this is PL ok, unless Jo says we need to be more strict in following the script, in which case I guess both chapters will need a repetition of the title of the work.

I agree it's not necessary in thus case to repeat the book title after the first chapter. :)
