Hi Lynne,

Chapters 28-30 are PL OK.

Salvarsan came out in 1910.
In 1907 treatment of syphilis was still with mercurial compounds, toxic and slow.

This is probably syphilitic anterior uveitis, which makes light painful to the eye and which can lead to acute glaucoma.

It's a shame the doctor deferred his treatment past the primary (sore) and secondary (rash) stage, because even today the treatment of ocular syphilis is problematic and complications frequent.

My best,

Dr. Pam

Thanks... for the PL and the background info  Was wondering if it is transmitted by touch as he doesn't want to touch Betty... or is that because it is painful? :hmm: Or maybe he just feels that would be getting too close and she would detect something is amiss.

In the rash stage, it is transmissible by contact with his lips and he would still be contagious this way as the uveitis got under way. Later, no.

B.T.W.

I can stop noting minor stumbles, if you wish.
