Cleopatra by Georg Ebers (1837 - 1898). Translated by Mary J. Safford (1834 - 1891)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/cleopatra-by-georg-ebers/
The world knows the fate of the classic lovers Cleopatra and Mark Antony, so there is no need to announce a spoiler alert. Georg Ebers was a German Egyptologist who deftly applied his comprehensive knowledge of Rome and Egypt into a fictionalized account of the ill-fated romance between the Eygptian Queen and her Roman lover Mark Antony. (Cate Barratt)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/5482
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

David - this is an abandoned project. I don't know if the reader is going to use the old files or not - he didn't answer that question in the old thread. :)

Tricia,

Thanks for the information. The old thread is here.

I will copy the old files into my uploader folder so Jim can listen to them decide what to do.

a) use them and record the other chapters (continue the abandoned project)
or
b) record the whole project himself (start a new project)

I will need information on Genres and Keywords before we add this to the Librivox catalog

I made a few changes to the MW:
1) edited recording Intro and ending information to remove duplication of Author and Translator,
2) shortened the .mp3 file names,
3) removed section about ID tags, and
4) removed the generic login information.

Here is a list of links to the original recordings by soloist Cleogirl

Thanks, David and Tricia. Sorry, I had guests this weekend and didn't check messages. It looks perfect. I wanted to do the whole thing myself. Typical of me. But I really do appreciate all your help.

Jim,

If you decide to skip the Preface or record it in the same section as Chapter 1, just update the section title in the MW.

Perhaps he should write his own summary ? - I'm sure Cate's project will be finished sometime, she is such a good reader and her preface will be needed as will her files.

Dave C,

I am pretty sure Jim will accept you as DPL so I am setting that up and moving this to Going Solo before I go to bed.
