This is my first time doing a book like this. If we have questions on pronouncing names and such, should we listen to the previous chapters to make sure we are consistent? I know you normally don't do that for fear of overloading servers, but I wasn't sure in this case.

Thanks!

Hi,

It looks like sections 13, 14, 15, & 16 have opened up. May I claim them, please?

13 - Sybil is Critical
14 - The Flying Fever
15 - A Final Test
16 - The Opening Gun

Hi Danielle,
I found 3 small differences between the Project Gutenberg text and what I heard in chapter 12 --

at 1:39
heard:'it "intersects them"
written: it "interests them"

at 4:48
heard: and the law will uphold me
written: and the law would uphold me

8:21
heard: and now he's kickin' me out
written: and now he's kicked me out

None of these materially change the sense of the chapter, so they're OK.

Your audio level for the chapter came in at 91.9 dB -- the very top of the range LibriVox wants. Audacity shows 3 places where your audio reaches clipping:
4:29 on the word "actionable"
4:32 on the word "that's"
8:19 on the word "guy"
These all pass the listen test, so you're OK. In future recordings you should probably lower your record level 3 dB which would put your recording exactly at the ideal level and would avoid the digital clipping.

With all that said,
Chapter 12 "THE SPYING OF TOT TYLER"
PL OK

Hi,

I was just reading back through the posts and realized that someone else asked for Ch. 13 - Sybil is Critical a few days ago. If they still want it, then I'm asking just for chapters

14 - The Flying Fever
15 - A Final Test
16 - The Opening Gun

But if they don't, then I'm happy to read all four.

Have a good day!

jcrosbie
Hello jcrosbie,
welcome to Librivox. I hope you will enjoy here. Of course, section 13 is all yours. Sorry for my late responce. However, before you proceed, please do the following:
1. Submit a one-minute sampal recording, just to make sure your tecnical settings are all correct.
2. Please let us know under which name you would like to be credited in the catalogue, and if you have a personal url which you would like us to link to your name.
Have fun,
Stav.

Thanks so much for the listen. I know it wasn't necessary but I fixed the wording things mostly because the "intersects" thing would have driven me crazy.

When you say turn it down 2 dB next time, is that something I do on my mic or afterward in Audacity?

Thanks!

EXCELLENT. You got nice clean edits on your fixes. Chapter 12 is PL OK (again).

In your case I'd recommend changing the levels on the recording because you are really close to getting clipping. See the Mixer Toolbar instructions at
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/mixer_toolbar.html
If you are lucky you'll be able to just move the recording volume slider, otherwise the page links to instructions for Windows, Mac, & Linux on how to open your OS's recording level controls. If your level control shows dB, adjust it 3dB lower. If it's not marked or marked with some arbitrary numbers try reducing the level to something like 4/5 of whatever it was to start with.

At 7:49 in the recording the words "Then she asked:" are left out. It's perfectly obvious who is speaking, so this is no big deal.

At the very end you said "End of chapter" instead of "End of chapter 14". Again, no big deal.

Technical specs - volume, room noise, pops, etc - are all A-OK.

Chapter 14 - The Flying Fever
PL OK

Yay, another chapter is ready.
