In this work, first published in 1883, James once again writes of an American trying to settle in England. The woman at the center, however, is not a product of the Boston or New York upper classes, but of the American West, and is thus distinguished from the characters of many of his other transatlantic works. ( Nicholas Clifford)
Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard
IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated). Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording! START of recording (Intro):
"Chapter [number] of The Siege of London. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say: "The Siege of London, by Henry James. [Chapter]"
For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
"Chapter [number] of The Siege of London by Henry James. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Only if applicable, say: "[Chapter title]"
END of recording:
At the end of the section, say: "End of [Chapter]"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
At the end of the book, say (in addition): "End of The Siege of London, by Henry James. "
There should be about 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.

Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
I'm afraid I messed up in posting this originally, and I found message from someone else offering to be MC, and I've been trying to reply. But I've been away most of the day (Saturday) and when I try to sign in to reply to the earlier messages, I'm told I'm not authorized to read them.
Perhaps the original sender will pick them up here? In any case, I apologize for any confusion.
All sorted now - you can't read the message because that thread was deleted.
For next time , probably the best thing to do would be to post in the threads.
Your version of "Sorry please delete this" in the first one
and if you've arranged an MC and DPL post
" Amazing Annise and Delightful Dave have agreed to help me with this"
Nicholas.
I can't think of a suitable adjective starting with N -- unless I use knowledgable which neither starts with an N or a C though it should.
That way everyone knows what is going on
No - that doesn't suit
I thought you might be chuffed by this review - as I think that is what your aim is
As usual, Nicholas Clifford does a good job as narrator, not injecting himself into this 17-hour recording and making sense of all those run-on sentences. Thanks Nicholas!
I'd second that
maybe "Non-injecting Nicholas" though it may perhaps be taken the wrong way these days
Yes, of course, I was indeed chuffed, and these days I need all the chuffing I can get.
I've now posted the first chapter of Siege of London. It runs to 38 minutes, though chp. ii goes only to about 25 min., so they may vary a good del in size.
