Lynne, there's a typo in the MW on one of my writers - her last name is Jewett, not Jewitt.
thx.

Section 19, Arachne PL Notes James, The reading is ok, but there is a background noise like wind throughout. It was not in your last recording, and I don't know what it is. I don't know if it can be cleaned or if it is too distracting for acceptance. Lynn will have to say.

I see what you mean, Cheryl. I did some noise cleaning; also when I ran it through Checker, I noticed there was some DC bias, so I removed that. The result is better, to my mind.

James, it is your file, so I don't want to just go ahead and replace your version but if you think this works, I certainly can do -- otherwise I'm not sure what to suggest, but I did find it distracting.

Lynne, re: Section 19 That seems quite a bit better to me. I think it is OK now.
Aren't you clever. I had to see go see what DC bias is - that is interesting.

I'll give James a chance to react -- I don't want to fix things for other people (meddle).
As for DC bias... I don't know what it is, I just saw the number wasn't 0  And it's a very easy fix by following Phil's video on the subject.

Hello Lynne and Cheryls,

The background sound is most likely the ceiling fan.
You're welcome to meddle with my file if that makes it better/acceptable.
When I saw PL notes, I was worried if there were unacceptable pronunciation problems to fix.
Anyway, I also need to check DC bias it seems.

Thank you Lynne for fixing and hope the project is moving into public domain for downloading soon. This will be the first project in which I have contributed going live as Lynne probably knows.

DC bias.

The AC signal applied to them is superposed on this DC bias current or voltage. The operating point of a device, also known as bias point, quiescent point, or Q-point, is the steady-state (DC) voltage or current at a specified terminal of an active device (a transistor or vacuum tube) with no input signal applied.

DC offset is a mean amplitude displacement from zero. In Audacity it can be seen as an offset of the recorded waveform away from the center zero point.

This (above) is the Wiki explanation.

It means the waveform is more below the zero line on the waveform, than above. It can cause clicks, distortion, and noise, but only over a certain level of bias. I get very small offsets sometimes and it has no detrimental effect on the sound. If it gets passed by checker it's OK.

Thanks, Peter... for the non-technical of us, that's as clear as mud

OK, it sounds like we're ready for the catalog. I'll do it tomorrow as cataloguing these collections is a bit more complicated than regular projects.

Volume 67 is up and running 8-)
