Hi. I have the recordings as MP3 files but didn't save in Audacity. I'm not sure how to add 5 seconds to the recording if I can't get it back into Audacity. Can anyone help? Thanks. I will record again if necessary. Sorry....

if you go into Audacity...then File - Open, you can open the mp3 file and it will convert it back into an audacity file

To do this I highlight the blank area at the end of the recording.
Then select Effect / Silence and type in the length of 5s.

I take a different approach. I find some silence in the recording, maybe a bit at the end, maybe a pause in the beginning, and copy that. I then past it to the end of the file (multiple times, if needed to create 5 seconds). That way the "silence" includes ambient room noise. Machine generated silence is absolutely silent, which can be noticeable after the listener has heard room silence in all the other pauses.
