The Purple Land by William Henry Hudson (1841 - 1922).

In W.H. Hudson’s first novel, an Englishman wandering on horseback across the pampas finds adventure and romance in Uruguay. The full title became: “The Purple Land: Being the Narrative of One Richard Lamb's Adventures in The Banda Oriental, in South America, as Told By Himself”. In the preface to "The Sun Also Rises", President Teddy Roosevelt said that everyone should read "The Purple Land."- ( A. Gramour)

    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/7132
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Ah, I lost track of this one, so glad to see it pop up again, finally!

I've uploaded the preface again:

I had also claimed the Appendix. I'll go ahead and record that, now that this project is active again.

That's great, Larry. I will update the MW. You didn't happen to be DPL, too? I remember it did have one, but it escapes me.

No, not on my list, and I don't show a DPL on my master sheet.

There are some long sections here, so I'm a bit reluctant to take it on, but it is likely to be a slow moving project, so you can put me in if you like. I'm still playing catch up a bit, but should be on track soon.

Hi Larry,
I wasn't trying to coerce you. There was one for this project. I can't remember who it was. I'll wait to see if they find the book again. There is so much going on with the holidays.
Thanks,
Amy

This is an old claim, so thought I'd better get it done. I'm pretty loaded right now, but maybe I can come back to this and take a few more sections.

Hi Larry,
I proof listened your two. Nice readings! The preface is PL OK. In the appendix, you say petty where it is pretty. This is a standard project so whether you change it is up to you.
At 4:09 After thus acquiring its independence, the little Belgium of the New World cast off its pretty (4:09) but hated appellation of Cisplatina and resumed its old joyous name of Banda Orientál.
Thank you for starting off and ending the book!
Amy :D

Hi there

I see this one has been left a bit forlorn. I'm a total newbie, and would like to give this a try. Could I please have the preface and chapters 1 and 2? I'd like my label to be cazimodo.

Thanks very much
