Iracema by Jose de Alencar (1829 - 1877)

This project is now complete. All files can be found on the catalog page:
https://librivox.org/iracema-by-jose-de-alencar/

  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.dominiopublico.gov.br/pesquisa/DetalheObraForm.do?select_action=&co_obra=2029
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

    BC Admin
  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!

"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"Iracema, by Jose de Alencar. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of Iracema by Jose de Alencar. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Iracema, by Jose de Alencar. "

There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes.
  • Example filename iracema_##_dealencar_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. iracema_01_dealencar_128kb.mp3)

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.

How lovely! This is a great book!

I have been DPL for the English version that we have, but since I don't speak Portuguese, let me MC this for you!

I have to go out now, but I'll set it up later tonight when I'm back home.
Cheers, Ava.

Okay, we're done here! Please check the filename, I have changed it a little.

Also, since this is a solo in Portuguese, you can use the librivox disclaimer in Portuguese instead of in English. it is here, you can update your above post accordingly:

I see this is your first solo? Then you will need a new password to access the MW - now you are in charge of it yourself. Please read our instructions here:
http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Soloists:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

Let me know if you have any further questions!

We'll stay here for a day or two to see if we can grab a DPL. I'm not sure how many Portuguese speakers we have at the moment, but you never know...
Cheers, Ava.

Rogerio, you don't have to wait with filling in the Magic Window or with recording until we find a DPL. Sometimes people prefer to wait a bit until something is there to listen to

Hi, Availle!

I've followed the steps to get to the BC Admin screen. All working now!

I have a question about the Intro - "chapters" vs "sections". Considering that this book (Iracema) has tiny chapters (two or three pages each, having no title), I decided to divide it into sections, so that each section has around 25 or 30 minutes of recording time.

The "intro" text mentions "chapters". Should I change it to "section"?

Thank you!

Yes, changing it to "section" is a good idea. As I said above, please use the Portuguese disclaimer for this one - would be funny to hear the English one...

In any case, I'll move us to "Going Solo" for now. When you have completed a chapter, I mean: section, or two, we can advertise for a proof listener.

Hi, Availle!

I uploaded the first file (Section 3) and filled the corresponding row in the Magic Window.

I apologize for not having uploaded Sections 1 & 2 first -- I had some problems when editing the first two sections.

Chapters in this book have no titles, so I'll be naming the sections only as "chapters yy to zz" (in Portuguese).

Thank you!

Hello, Availle,

I have also uploaded Section 1, and filled the magic window.

Sections 1 and 3 are ready for proof-listening.

Thank you!

Rogerio, I have already posted a "DPL WANTED" advertisement over in "Listeners Wanted". I hope we can find somebody soon, but as I said, it is always a bit difficult for non-English projects.

However, do keep recording! Maybe there is somebody already looking at the project who'd like to jump in as soon as it's closer to be finished?

Thank you, Availle. In the project I was involved before, I had access to the magic window so I could change the status of 'ready to listen' to 'see PL notes' or 'PL ok'. I understand this is not always the case. Would you like me to listen via the Forum page (above the feed) and leave comments here and then you make the necessary changes in the magic window? Or will I be able to access the magic window? Thanks
PS: by magic window I mean the window that opens when you click on the 'BC Admin' Link. Thanks :D

Hi, Rogerio. I'm very glad to be doing the proof listening for your project. I started with the second recording, only because there was an error (from my computer, I believe) with the first link. So I listened to the section that includes chapters 11 to 14. When you get to 05min05sec, the text says "na porta da cabana" (page 29). In the recording I hear "na borda da cabana". :-) Apart from that, everything else is perfect.
