Catherine Howard by Alexandre Dumas (1802 - 1870). Adapted by W. D. Suter (1811 - 1882)
Subtitled "The Throne, The Tomb, and The Scaffold - An Historical Play in 3 Acts From the Celebrated Play of that Name by Alexandre Dumas". How can you resist a play about English history - the doomed fifth wife of Henry the 8th - by the celebrated French author of The Musketeers?? ( ToddHW)
- This project is complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/catherine-howard-by-alexandre-dumas/
A few years back I tried to do all the plays written by Dickens before he started cranking out novels. Dumas also wrote plays before turning to novels, but then kept turning out successful plays while he published his books.
Gender neutral as usual.
- Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
- How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
- New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
- Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text! - I'm sorry it is not more legible): https://archive.org/details/catherinehowardo00sute
- Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

You're right! I can't resist! However, I also can't read the text at the moment

my internet is loading very slowly. I suspect Catherine Howard herself calls for a younger voice, but could you suggest a role that would suit me? Perhaps either Princess Margaret or Winifred? What do you think?

Hi Todd
Can I read the role of Archbishop Cranmer?
As Cranmer was one of the so-called "Oxford Martyrs" ,whose memorial in town I pass almost every day, I feel I must play him.

Thanks. And I have corrected my misspelling of his name.

Todd, I have no time for big roles (I still owe you another one), but when I'm home, I'm sure I can squeeze in the alchemist

I couldn't pass up a chance to read King Henry, now could I? What do you think, Todd? I'd be glad to give it a go.

ok, from your order of claiming, I am guessing that Catherine Howard is your first choice, Beth...I hope I am right...
Todd, could I claim the role of Winifred then, please ? I simply love a good shrew LOL

Can we assume there will be some prepared docs to read from? Or will we have to dig them out of the Archive copy? I don't think I want to do that.

The Archive copy is it. The OCR'd "Full Text" version is bad, but the PDFs are not so terrible.
Let me know if you want to reconsider your claim.
Thanks, Todd

Since you gave them the same name, the latter one overwrote the new one. Best to rename the Act 3 file and then upload them both again.
I will PL your files, and delighted to have you DPL for the rest.
Thanks, Todd
