COMPLETE: Catherine Howard by Dumas - thw
Great!
Thanks, Todd
Thanks, Todd
I'm going to read the stage directions. When the construction noise outside my window stops - sinkhole opened in the street two nights ago and they have been working almost around the clock - I think they want to make sure the hole does not grow under the houses on either side of the street, a sentiment with which I can heartily agree!
Thanks, Todd

you live in quite a dangerous area ! I once saw a picture of this famous huge sinkhole somewhere in South America, and ever since I am afraid something like this might open up right next to me.ToddHW wrote:When the construction noise outside my window stops - sinkhole opened in the street two nights ago and they have been working almost around the clock - I think they want to make sure the hole does not grow under the houses on either side of the street, a sentiment with which I can heartily agree!
Let's hope they manage to fix it (and soon, so you have the needed quiet again to record )
Sonia
Not a natural sinkhole. Heart of downtown Baltimore where some of the pipes in the city water system may still be wooden ones from the 1800s. The various old ones leak always and old or new they break sometimes and wash out all the support for the street. A 25" diameter high pressure one went a few years ago and took out all the cars for a block. This one was just a small dimple in the roadway a week ago and they quickly diverted traffic and started digging to discover it was a lot bigger below that what had shown. I think it is like Carlsbad Caverns down there - but seemingly under control now - I was able to record some stuff about dawn (before the church bells started).

Stage directions recorded. I'll edit them (to make sure I get rid of all the backup beepers) and post them for PL before I use them to assemble the acts.

Yes, thanks.MrsHand wrote:May I please have the Duke of Sussex?

Here are the stage directions for PL before I start filling the reader parts. You will see I left out a buncha the instructions about specific entrance and exit door directions and other stage directions that don't apply to an audio-only version.

Well, this was a quick PL Sussex did not really have a huge part in Act 1 LOL I wonder why they made the poor actor come in so early, only to then stand behind the scenes and wait for his next entrance in Act 3.MrsHand wrote:Here's the Duke of Sussex:

Nevertheless, your reading was excellent and flawless Well done. PL ok without any problems.
@Todd: your parts are quite longer, I'll start now, but probably won't finish today.

all right I managed to PL Acts 1 and 2.ToddHW wrote:Here are the stage directions for PL before I start filling the reader parts. You will see I left out a buncha the instructions about specific entrance and exit door directions and other stage directions that don't apply to an audio-only version.

Act 1 is PL ok I suppose you did not want to read the entire intro and additional notes on the first pages ?
For Act 2 I have a few suggestions:
> at 2:04 - 2:11: (p. 15 top) "Henry taking her right hand" / "Athelwold touching her left hand" - here you left out "right" and "left", but I think actually to avoid confusion that they might be molesting the same hand , it would be better to differentiate between the two
> at 6:38: (p. 20 top) you left out that there is a window and another door in the stage directions. They both become important during the scene though, and since you mention the door with the tapestry, you might also mention the other two
> at 8:31: (p. 22 top) you forgot "Exit" for the page
Also, there was this sentence that Henry spoke during the stage directions at p. 15 middle (Catherine oh Catherine thou bride of death farewell farewell for ever). I asked Larry to speak this line in my PL notes, since I think on stage the actor would have spoken them as well. But if you prefer to say it yourself, we might tell him, he doesn't need to do it.

I might read some of the introduction for Act 1. I'll take another look at that text.Kitty wrote:all right I managed to PL Acts 1 and 2.ToddHW wrote:Here are the stage directions for PL before I start filling the reader parts. I like your Act 2 suggestions above and will add them in.
I will use Larry's reading for Henry's words in the stage directions when I get them.
Thanks!

Also finished checking Act 3, and all is PL ok there

Here's the first part of Catherine Howard - I've made here a little bit of a drama queen, because I don't really think you can say "I'm going blind! I'm dying!" without hamming it up at least a bit!

excellently dramatized, Beth ! You are right, playing the drama queen is quite suitable for CatherineElizabby wrote:Here's the first part of Catherine Howard - I've made here a little bit of a drama queen, because I don't really think you can say "I'm going blind! Although I think that she still sounds a bit too lively, screaming thus, while she should be getting fainter and fainter. But it fits the dramatics of the scene. That's the beauty of stage drama even though it might not be realistic.
It reminds me of the opera Don Carlos that I once saw live in Prague. At the end Rodrigue, who was shot and supposed to be in his death-throes, kept on singing for over 5 minutes still
Well, Act 1 is PL ok. Looking forward to the next two.
