The House with the Twisting Passage by Marion St John Webb (1888 - 1930).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project: https://librivox.org/the-house-with-the-twisting-passage-version-2-by-marion-st-john-webb/
When her parents go to India for two years, 9 year old Jenny is cared for by her aunts. Aunt Abby is caretaker in a manor house, now converted to a rest home, where Jenny meets, and hears the stories of, the interesting occupants of the many rooms. The owner's daughter, now middle-aged, is remote in both location and character. She visits only occasionally, but what was the story of her childhood, and how will she react to Jenny's presence? The House with the Twisting Passage is a wonderful set of standalone children's stories encompassed within a larger story. ( Carod)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): From physical book
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

ok, the magic window is up, but i have two questions and a request for you :)

1. just making sure that i didnt get it wrong, the author is marion st. john webb, right? then the template is a little bit messed up, but easy to fix.

2. can you come up with a shorter file name? housewiththetwistingpassages_##_webb_128kb.mp3 is really really long - is house_xx_webb_128kb.mp3 enough?

3. the request: could you please take a photo of the cover page of your book, just so that if ever anyone asks about the pd status of the text, we have that picture to show? a picture with your phone camera is enough :)

Hi Both

Carolin:
1. Yes, it's Marion St. John Webb. I see what you mean about the template though.. Something I did? :(
2. I don't mind what I name the files, your suggestion is fine and I'll go with that. I don't remember specifying any file name - was that very long one auto-generated?
3. A photo is no problem. Is it the cover you want or the page that specifies first publication date? And where do I need to send it?

Claudia - Hi! I've done the first two chapters and will upload them probably tomorrow.

Yes, file names get auto generated, so if a title is long, the file name is even longer. I personally prefer shorter file names, but if you personally prefer the longer one we can still go with that.

The authors name went wrong because, if im not mistaken, you couldnt find ms webb in the drop down menu when filling in the author. You probably searched for st. John already as last name but we have her as webb, marion st john, so she only comes up when you enter webb. The author drop down isnt perfect, and not easy to use, so dont worry about it :) i didnt edit the intros and outros, if you just know that her name is slightly different and say it right in the recording, youure fine :)

We need a picture of the page with the publication date. Just make sure the whole page is on it, with the author, title and date, then we are fine. Could you email the picture to info@librivox.org as an attachment? Then we can keep it there :)

Thank you!
Thank you!

just dropping in to say that as her father was Arthur St. John Adcock , the Webb is probably her married name so she went from Miss Adcock to Mrs. Webb . So her surname is Webb. The St.John is just her second name. So I was right when I added it for the first version I think.

Chapters 1 and 2 uploaded.

I went with "twistingpassage" as filename in the end. Hope that's ok. If not, it's not a biggy, I can change it.

Ho Caro, there's something seriously wrong with your links. I could retrieve the correct ones from Carolin's folder. I'm not quite sure why the whole MW is filled with empty links, either. What happened there?

I corrected the links in the MW now for the first three chapters, so they should work.

Odd.

I got the first ones from the uploader window, then copied and adapted them down the rows for speed (but of course anything after 3 won't lead anywhere at the moment).

It's never been a problem before. I'll check the links before posting that they're there next time.

you have a couple of typos in the links. it is best to copy-paste the link into the mw as you get them from the magic window to make sure you get the right link into the magic window - otherwise ill have a few problems during cataloging :)

thank you!

I guess it would be best to remove all links of files that don't exist yet. :)
