The Mary Frances Knitting and Crocheting Book by Jane Eayre Fryer (1876 - ).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-mary-frances-knitting-and-crocheting-book-by-jane-eayre-fryer/

Mary Frances is a little girl whose Aunt Maria intends to teach her to knit and crochet, but she's very strict and demanding. It's a good thing the Knitting People are around to help Mary Frances out! This book includes real patterns which can be knit and crocheted for dolls and children. ( wildemoose)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://archive.org/details/maryfrancesknitt00frye
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity has much improved noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.

I'll MC this one! Your MW is up, I will move the files over to my folder and make sure everything that everything is the way it should be in the backroom. We will wait here a day or two to see if we can pick up a DPL.

ETA: All files are there and have been moved! We are ready to rock! :D

Yay! May I please claim sections 22 through 24 (to begin with)?

I actually read this book a few years ago when I was learning to knit - it's a lot of fun!

Also - quick question -

I am having a LOT of trouble finding a file I can use from "archive.org" for this book. The Plain Text version is riddled with OCR errors, and none of the others seem to want to upload to my computer easily (I think because I use Chrome). :(

Would it be OK to use one of the files at Project Gutenberg? http://archive.org/details/maryfrancesknitt00frye Those always seem to work better for me for some reason.

Please let me know - if it's not permitted I'll just bow out gracefully.

Thanks either way! 8-)

Oh, interesting. When I started this project several years ago, the Archive scan was the only one available and it wasn't on Gutenberg - it's clearly been added since. I just had a look at the Gutenberg version and I'm confident it's the same text and 1918 edition, as the illustrations are the same, but I personally found it super hard to read from. The book has a lot of illustrations and captions and on the Gutenberg site they're sort of all over the place, whereas the Archive version has the actual scanned pages laid out in their original format.

However, I think it would be fine to read from Gutenberg as long as it's PLed against the Archive scan. (Not because Archive is inherently better, just because it's better to have a single source of truth for a project and the existing chapters have already been PLed against Archive.)

By the way, not sure what happened but I intended to post the link to the Gutenberg version - http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/52396 - somehow posted the Archive.org version instead! Is this the one you looked at?
