COMPLETE The Colour of Life by Alice Meynell -ck
Hi Carolin,
Thank you for doing that!
Here is my recording. I hope it's okay, took me a while to get used to the sound of my voice
It's 9 minutes 31 seconds long
Chapter 6 At Monastery Gates
https://librivox.org/uploads/carolin/colouroflife_06_meynell128kb.mp3
Please let me know if anything else needs to be included (or should have been).
Of course, any CC at all is more than welcome.
Thanks and have a lovely day

Great reading in section 6! I think it is always strange to listen to one's own voice -- but I think your voice is lovely and clear!
There are a couple of things to fix:
- The recording is in stereo and needs to be mono. To change all future recordings, go to Edit, Preferences, Devices. Under Recording, change Channels to "1 (Mono)". To fix this one:
Click >Tracks > Stereo Track to Mono.
- The volume is a bit soft (ca 83dB). Please amplify it by selecting the whole recording, click Effect > Amplify and use the settings Amplification dB: 6.
Save with the same file name, upload, and post in the thread. You are doing a good job

thank you kathrine
Carolin
Thank you very much, Kathrine!
I have amplified the recording. However, it was definitely recorded in mono, I've double-checked the settings, and when I went to "tracks" to change it just in case I had misremembered, that option was greyed out anyhow, which seems to confirm that. Is there another setting that could have made it sound this way?
In any case, I've pasted the amplified version upload below. If it still doesn't sound right, please let me know. (Maybe I'd be better off re-recording.)

Thanks both.

The volume is section 6 is good now I still comes up as stereo for me, both when I open the file in Audacity and when I run it through the Checker. I wonder why the Stereo Track to Mono was greyed out for you. Could it be because you had been listening to the recording and only hit pause, not stop? Carolin, do you have other suggestions?
Kathrine
Hi vand35, I think I might have a solution for you? Try using the Tracks menu in Audacity, there is a function called 'Stereo track to mono'. This way you might be able to avoid re-recording
(by the way, Carolin, I'm working on my parts, just trying to get rid of mouth clicks... I didn't have the issue when reading French, but I do in English! @_@)

Thank you for all the suggestions.
I have re-recorded:
At Monastery Gates Section 6
9 minutes 33 seconds
https://librivox.org/uploads/carolin/colouroflife_06_meynell128kb.mp3
(Hopefully this will work! If not, I think that the problem might be that when I go to save the file, in format options, eg bit rate mode/ quality, the only "Channel mode" options I get are "Stereo" and "joint stereo". I've read around, and apparently this shouldn't affect the mono recording, but if it does, unfortunately I don't know a way around it!)

i can already tell you that all your technical settings are in order for this recording. katrhine will listen to your file shortly and let you know if all the words are correct too
