Abraham Lincoln and the Abolition of Slavery in the United States by Charles Godfrey Leland (1824 - 1903).

This book can now be found in our catalog at https://librivox.org/abraham-lincoln-and-the-abolition-of-slavery-in-the-united-states-by-charles-godfrey-leland/

The book is a biography of Abraham Lincoln with emphasis on how his personality and beliefs impacted the history of the American Emancipation and its causes. The book is very well written, easy to read and includes valuable historical information being written by a man who was there during the civil war. He even fought in the war and was able to add his insight into the happenings from his own perspective. This book would add knowledge to anyone who really wants to know the truth about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. ( philip chenevert)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/52412?msg=welcome_stranger
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Hello,

I am a chronically early person. I am never ever late for work, except that one time back in '98...

but anyway,

Is it too early to request to read Chapter 12?

I do indeed have a question:

In the instructions for both beginning and end of chapter, you have the reader say "Translated by philip ( - 0) [Chapter]"

I am going to venture a guess that this is a cut and paste from a previous text?

You are correct, that phrase was inadvertently left in the first post since there is no translation involved. I will remove it now and thanks.

Thanks Phil. I'm happy having my name out there, John Chancellor. I just uploaded my first swing at the chapter, would love to hear feedback! If this recording works for you, I'd love to move on to Chapter 2.

Wow that was fast John. I will put this into the magic window for proof listening and you will hear back in a day or so. But let's assume everything is fine and you may certainly go on to chapter 2. Have fun. !

Chapter 12

[49:45]

https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/lincolnandtheabolitionofslavery_12_leland_128kb.mp3

Lemon water and chewing gum did not help my excessive and relentless mouth noise.
Deliberate enunciation and clever editing got me through this.
I don't know why this is happening now when I've never really had much of a salivary problem before, but green apples are next.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just edit out the most egregious ones and see what happens. But it is your recording so it is up to you of course. Stay cool and keep on having fun. Thanks for section 12.
