Hello!

At long last, my chapter. I apologize for taking this long. I am a newbie, and had to record in a few sections.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do this. I had a great time!

Thank you. Be sure to check back for PL notes.

Hi Amanda,

It's not everyday I get to hear a professional actress reading for Librivox! Quite a treat, I must say!

Here are my notes for Chapter 6:

At 08:10 there is an omission: "the Hibbert, the Cornhill, the Commonwealth, the Common Cause"

I ran your file run through Checker (highly recommend) http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker

and your volume was a bit low 84.5. Our working range is 86-92, optimum 89db.

So I would recommend amplifying by about +3.5 in Audacity under Effects-amplification. But in order to do that, you will need to apply Compressor to the file first to smooth out the peaks so that you do not get clipping. The Compressor is also under effects. Leave the two boxes at the bottom of the Compressor settings unchecked and just use the settings they recommend.

You have quite a few plosives and this recent thread will help with that:

viewtopic.php?f=23&t=61451

I think that you may need to increase the setting in Audacity called Recording Volume. It tends to need to be quite high with our USB mics. For my Samson, I have to have it at 97. Less and the wave forms are too small, more and I get distortion. I think when that is right, you will be able to get the distance to the mic adjusted and the plosive problem will improve (although I have been suffering from a siege of plosives lately, despite a pop filter).

These notes, though wordy, recommend minor, relatively easy fixes. You recorded a long section very very well!

My best,

Pam

Hi Kalynda,

Great reading, of course.

At 04:56 there is a skip or jump in the recording that obscures the words, "perhaps fatuous"

Hi Pam,

I took all of your notes and ran the changes you requested. I ran the file through Checker and got my check mark. So - fingers crossed. And thank you again.

Hi Amanda,

You passed with flying colors!

I will mark Section 6 PL OK as soon as it is up in the MW, but I didn't want you to worry.
