Lysistrata by Aristophanes (446 - 389 BCE).

This project is now complete. All files can be found on the catalog page:
https://librivox.org/lysistrata-version-2-by-aristophanes/

Quote:
Lysistrata, the war of the sexes from ancient Greece, where women (under the lead of Lysistrata) withheld sexual favors in order for their husbands to end the Peloponnesian War. (terribly temporary summary).

The translator is unknown, but it is rumored to have been Oscar Wilde.

    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1 month of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.

    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/8688

PLEASE READ FROM THE GOOGLE DOCS LINKED IN THE MAGIC WINDOW!

Please ask if you need other names!

    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I think we definitely need an in-house production of Lysistrata (since the one we have is from a school drama club).

So, here we are; I take the main character, but everything else is open.
I will post a short pronunciation guide for the characters later tonight.

Since this is THE comedy about the war of the sexes, I want the roles to be gender specific; there are 3 or 4 small unisex ones though for men or women.

Enjoy! :D

I will edit this myself, but I would be grateful for a DPL - both for individual roles and the finished product.

Deadlines are within one month please, the play is not very long.

Thank you Piotr - I'll sign you up!

Wouldn't you like to play somebody as well? The Laconians are foreigners, in case you're worried about accents

I won't be claiming any characters for the time being.

As for the DPL routine, I understand that in the case of dramatic readings it involves first PLing all the individual lines as they come and then PLing the edited play? Also, do you want it to be word-perfect?

Lian, Myrrhine is all yours, thanks for claiming! Pronunciation guide is linked in the top post. Feel free to ask if you have questions!

Deadline for your recording is 1 month please.

Piotr,
I would appreciate if you could read along with the text to make sure that no lines are missing. I don't think we need "word perfect" since this is not a verse version of the text; smaller errors are okay as long as they don't change the meaning. Okay with you?

Well, let's move us over to the dramatics then. I'm looking forward to this - I've wanted to do this for a looong time already! :D

OK.

I've never read this one, so I'm willing to hear the finished product too.

Hi, may I claim Calonice?

I can also be the First Woman in scenes 2+3 if you like.

All yours, thank you! :D

It would be nice if you could change your voice just a little bit for the first woman. It's not an absolute must since she only speaks 3 or 4 lines there, but just so that people won't be confused.

Thank you!

No problem! I've listened to the pronunciation guide but I still am not sure how to pronounce the following words:

Theagenes
Anagyra
Thrace
Eucrates
Pandrosos
Miletus

Sorry Leanne, I saw your post and then promptly forgot about it...

Here's the pronunciation of the names you asked for: https://librivox.org/uploads/availle/lysistrata_pronunciation2.mp3
I'm guessing a bit here, but since our characters are talking to each other, I think we should be consistent

My throat is still a bit scratchy, so I won't be able to record this for another week or so.

I've pitched my voice quite deep for this, so when I record Calonice it will be in my normal voice :)
