[DR] Rainy Week by Eleanor Hallowell Abbott (1872 - 1958).

Volunteers outside the USA: Eleanor Hallowell Abbott died in 1958. Her work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years.

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here: https://librivox.org/rainy-week-dramatic-reading-by-eleanor-hallowell-abbott/

Join this couple in their annual house party where the “guests” becoming unknowing “actors” in their beach house play “Rainy Week” (Linette Geisel).

“To be indeed absolutely explicit experience has proved, with an almost chemical accuracy, that, quite regardless of "age, sex, or previous condition of servitude," this particular combination of Romantic Passion, Psychic Austerity, Tragedy, Ambition, Poignancy, Innocence, And Irritation, cannot be housed together for even one Rainy Week without producing drama!” (Eleanor Hallowell Abbott)
  1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1 months of placing your claim. For main characters submit a chapter within 1 month of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording. With such a small cast I would prefer if we kept it gender perfect but time will tell..
  3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  4. Where do I find the text? Please only read from the Google Docs. Links are in the MW.
  5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

MrsHand was going to take this over from an abandoned solo. She should be around to take the role of Narrator.

I will PL parts and be responsible for the editing. Once edited chapters are posted I will advertise for PL, unless one of the readers volunteers.

Algy Pug should be coming by to claim the roll of Rollins or Dr Brawne, depending on the size role he can take on right now.

Linny,

I can MC this for you.

When you say Kristin was going to take this over from an abandoned solo, are you starting from scratch on all the recordings?

Hi MaryAnn,
Thank you for taking on this project!

Yes, we will be starting over. I had hoped to use the reader as the narrator for the chapters they completed but there is a male/female difference. Unfortunately, once this project is complete the solo will drop to the section of "other versions available".

I had looked at it in the abandoned list and was contemplating adopting it from there, but decided to hold off because doing it as a DR sounded better. :)

That would be great. Enjoy her. She's the only one that uses a swear word "damn". You get to use it on Algy in chapter 6.

May I be the May Girl? I have been in stitches reading this book! It is so funny!

Singing is a bit intimidating, but my husband is musical, so he will ensure I am on key :D
