Yes. I believe you can turn on or off the email notifications. Check out your User Control Panel. That may explain it.

Hi Susan and welcome to LibriVox. Actually you will need to claim the entire section 3, and read all six parts of it not just one and two. I notice that you haven't submitted your 1 minute test yet so that would be the first thing to do. I will definitely keep you in mind for this story and once you've gotten that pesky little test out of the way if you are still interested in reading the entire story just let me know and I will pop your claim in there.

I'm interested in reading A Prisoner. This will be my first recording, and here is my 1-min test (it is also posted on the newbie intro forum):

One question I have...how do I make sure that I pronounce names in the story correctly? Is there a post about this somewhere?

Hi and welcome to LibriVox and to this project. I notice that you are very close to being approved for your 1 minute test (everything is OK except for a bit of noise cleaning) so I will assign that section to you. I listned to a bit and agree that you have a lovely voice!

As for pronunciation, there is no specific post about this. Use Google to find a pronunciation and do your best; that will be fine. Or is there is a name that really stumps you, just ask for some help in this thread and someone will help. Don't let that hang you up, it is really not that critical.

EDIT: OH, what your you like to be your catalog name? it can be the same as your forum name or whatever you wish.

Thanks Phil. For the catalog name, feel free to use my forum name. I've submitted a second test to the proper forum. I do hear (and see on the volume line) a difference in the noise reduction. I did some Googling of some of the proper nouns and I agree, don't see anything in this story from Tolstoi that should be a big problem. As soon as I get the ok, I'll start recording.

We are very sorry to hear that. It is so frustrating to want to do something and then be thwarted by computers and tech stuff; I know from experience. Our LibriVox recording hobby is indeed hard especially working with Audacity. I'll remove your claim but sincerely hope that you read the help forums and watch videos and keep the hope alive. Reading (I call it performing) is so rewarding. Don't quit entirely please!!!! Just step back and maybe do some proof listening? or helping in other areas? Many of us have finally figured it out and so can you; just be patient and I predict that you will find yourself recording great stuff for LibriVox soon!!!!

EDIT: I suggest that you look at some short things like our poetry readings; these sections are quite long for beginners.
